It does matter, because now it is time to hold the Republicans accountable for not upholding their duty.
A senator said on Hannity tonight that the Senate had acquired Hunter Biden's banking records.
That is your opinion counselor, they did their duty. You are an attorney. How do you reconcile when things do not go the way you expect in court? Juries and judges daily make renderings that may or may not be what you personally believe is what the outcome should be, but that is our legal system. Many believe that the House Managers did not prove their case. You believe that anyone who doesn't think or come to the same conclusion you do means that they are somehow not as smart.
Example: You have made comments early on in Trumps admin that he had put in place a Muslim ban, which was not true. A judge, placed an injunction and tried to stop the ban. USSC ruled in favor of Trump. How do you reconcile this? Are the justices just stupid or partisan unable to make a fair decision based upon legal precedence and merits of the case brought before the court? I personally think Schiff, Pelosi and many other democrats have weaponized the impeachment process which was not the intention of the founding fathers. As in most "new" breaks from tradition usually the democrats are the ones who do it, such as Harry Reid's use of nuclear option in Senate. Democrats do this and then cry foul when it is used against them. Do not get upset if this ever gets used against a democratic POTUS.
The Supreme Court doesn’t always get it right. How does the minority on a Supreme Court decision reconcile the issue when they write a minority opinion saying the majority got it wrong?
By the way, it was the third Muslim ban that the majority upheld. The Trump administration bailed on its first two attempts, which may not have gotten approval from a majority.
Normally, in a trial, if a juror in voire dire says “I won’t be a fair juror”, they are immediately stricken for cause. So this “jury” situation is entirely unique.
These Republican Senators, at least most of them, are being disingenuous. Never before in the history of impeachment trials have all witnesses been excluded. They voted as a coordinated block hoping to make their job as jurors easier.
There is no doubt that Trump did what was alleged. The fact that many Republicans that voted to block witnesses is at least a tacit acknowledgement that whatever Bolton said wouldn’t matter. To conclude that means that you would have to first assume that he would say that “Trump told me that he held up the aid and the meeting for a personal political favor.”
A significant number of Republicans took the position that he did what they said he did, it is not impeachable. Those that took that position, knew they were taking an extreme position that only Dershowitz 2.0 agrees with (Dershowitz 1.0 didn’t). He gave them political cover to say what they said, but most of those Senators are lawyers and recognize that it is an inane legal argument.
In the end, everyone knows these Republican senators were going to be in lockstep with Trump no matter what. They know that their Republican base lives in the same alternate reality, low information, FoxNews universe that will not only excuse their conduct but will celebrate it.
And that is what the problem is. Folks are too happy to live in their information comfort zones, which has led to the complete fragmentation of news reporting. Those that stay in their information comfort zones live in an entirely different world than those that live outside of it. If you aren’t constantly challenging your worldview with information coming from outside your favorite channels, then this divide will only grow.
Meanwhile Slick Willy sold missile guidance technology to the Chicoms who also funneled money to his 1996 campaign thru Chinese monks.
obummer sold machineguns to the Mexican drug cartels to hopefully cause mass killings in the US i.e. dead Americans, so the country would be outraged and demand extreme gun control.
Krooked Killary paid for a fake dossier to be used as a political weapon.
Etc....
So, if the Supreme Court can get things wrong, conservatives are completely justified in our opposition to Roe v Wade and that it was unconstitutional.
