Holtz backed our guys in a corner and made 'em like it...
La Tech has also apparently set a target of eight wins per year (they’ve won nine games each of the past three years). The contract, which currently goes until 2022, will extend by a year each time the Bulldogs win eight or more games in a season. However, if he fails to win eight games in a given season, his buyout (which starts at $400,000) will decrease by $100,000. So in other words, Holtz gets another year every time he wins eight or more games, but becomes cheaper for someone else to hire every time he doesn’t. Also of note concerning the buyout: if Tommy McClelland is no longer Tech’s Athletic Director, the buyout will be decreased by $25,000. Similarly, if Dr. Les Guice is no longer La Tech’s president, the buyout will decrease by the same amount. So if both the AD and president leave their respective positions, Holtz’s buyout would drop by $50,000.
maxie lambright still has half of Tech's top 10 best seasons, so...
also, skip has never had a season with double-digit wins (something that has only happened at Tech 3 times in the past). if he doesn't pull a sonny dykes 2012, this should be his first, and one of the top 4 seasons (in total wins) in Tech history. if he wins out, it will be the most wins in Tech history and 2nd best winning percentage.
winning 5 bowl games in a row is big, but he needs to win a few conference championships and get us to a big bowl game. if he does that, he will be the GoAT hands down.
5 isn’t big when half the pool goes bowling.
Bowling is average now unless you make a big one.
Yep, winning 5 bowl games in a row, in 5 consecutive seasons, is so damn easy, anyone can do it...except, only Tech and Wisconsin can currently make that claim. Two schools out of 132...
No, I don't think this qualifies Holtz as the GOAT. But, it's an accomplishment that should not be so quickly dismissed.
Winning five bowl games in a row is pretty amazing, and it's something that is very hard for any team to do. Our five wins have all been in different bowls with different opponents (Illinois, Ark St, Navy, SMU, and Hawaii). That's an impressive list of opponents. The only one that was a Sun Belt team was Ark St, and they were The Sun Belt Conference Champions that year.
Holtz deserves a lot of credit for this win streak. He somehow gets us ready for bowl games.
