I've seen bad officiating over the decades but tonight was a first.
Nichols State and Southeastern Louisiana were playing for the Southland Conference championship and auto berth in the FCS playoffs. The game was on CST.
The officiating crew lost track of the timeouts for SLU in the second half. The Lions were able to call 5 timeouts in the final 1:12 of the game. It caused Nichols to have to run second, third, and fourth down plays at roughly their 1-yard line on the final series of the game.
The Colonels had to run a fourth-down play where the QB - Chase Fourcade - had to scramble in his own endzone before throwing the ball away deep downfield to kill the clock and preserve the win.
