I agree after the first failed test it is on the player. Also, the coaching staff should have been in those who failed the September test to try to ensure a second failed test would not occur. But........

In? Haven't we already seen negative consequences of a coach/player relationship being too close? Blue Hairs would have pearls clutched so tightly they may make diamonds.

I saw where a James not playing against North Texas counted as one of his games.

I've heard all kind of crap and some of it may eventually come out. For now, it was officially "breaking team rules" that got him a two game suspension.

Funny that nobody has asked why James only got a 1 game suspension.
I heard that he didn't inhale.

I thought one game was strange. Apparently since he was not playing as much anyway (was there an injury?) he didn't elect the B test which was not tested until Monday after UNT.

Honest Question: So, why did Ryan Higgins get a 1-game suspension for a DWI, --which obviously puts other lives on the road at risk-- but J'Mar and company got a 2-game suspension for what was apparently a simple matter of failing a marijuana drug test? Just curious, because the DWI seems to be a much more serious offense to me. Seems like we got the punishment backwards?

This was at least a second failed test for the players suspended.

Higgins got a game for being caught by law enforcement on the first-time DWI. If a DUI had been involved with this year's situation the first time, the resulting punishment would probably have been similar.

I get that. And I DON'T CARE that it was J'Mar's 2nd time for smoking dope, or not making his bed, or whatever. That's NOT the point. Nobody's arguing that J'Mar was a "bad boy". It's still a matter that Higgins put peoples' LIVES at risk by driving drunk, and J'Mar didn't. (Unless there's more to J'Mar's story that you haven't told us.) Your and my family's lives could have been jeopardized due to the Higgins DWI, which was much more serious than J'Mar's offense. THAT'S the point.

Totally agree... The punishments seem to be more than backward.

Higgins is still paying the price for his DUI.

Smith now has a clean slate.

Serious question. Who is still punishing Higgins? I forgot about it long ago.

Higgins sat a game for his first offense. Smith lost nothing for his first offense.

Was one game enough for Higgins? Maybe not. But obviously no punishment wasn't enough for Smith since he became a repeat offender.

I'm no attorney, but I have friends who have had a DUI or two. Besides the cost of auto insurance going through the roof they have a criminal record forever. Imagine needing a job that requires driving a company vehicle among many other things. Hopefully Higgins is past all the bad it brought, but it will always be out there.

Nobody will ever see the suspension for "breaking team rules" in Smith's official history.
