My opinion only:
We need to win conference championships - period!
We need to keep our bowl game streak going - period!
These are NOT mutually exclusive and, if one is not there, the other still needs to be. We need both, but one is better than none.
As for attendance, these things DO matter. Beating P5 teams help the most with this. We need to stop thinking it is one thing that increases attendance and builds our program. It is all of these things. Saying "at least we won our bowl game" is still a valid statement. It just isn't as good as "We won the conference title, beat a P5, and won the conference championship". It takes all three, but you don't throw out the rest of the good with the bad.
I don't bet, but if I had, I'd have won. It was the bet of the week.
UAB will be next week.
This is about as rough as I got on Holtz..."It's not Holtz' fault Smith made a bad decision, but don't think for a minute that Holtz didn't contribute to the enabling process. Y'all assume this is the first or second time for Smith to get caught"
Pay the man!
Agree, which makes these suspensions so irritating.
We were finally cruising through the conference with comfortable wins over USM and UNT. We have been given a schedule on a silver platter that still makes our best season record ever possible at 12-2 (could have reasonably been 13-1 before all this crap). That could have included hosting the conf CG, and pretty much picking the bowl that suits us best. Now we are in the pickle of whether or not J’Mar should be allowed to play again, or groom for next year. If we can somehow survive UAB, then we have to go back to J’Mar especially if the backups have injuries or are turnover machines. The potential program achievements are really important. No matter what it is pretty much a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. Likely damning this season’s final outcome by not letting J’Mar play again or damning the start of next season if he does play. No doubt in my mind that the coaches have him playing immediately after suspension is over.
I didn't call you a hater. You are certainly knowledgeable about our fan base. I've been a tech fan about 20 years and I certainly understand the frustration. What I don't understand is what the expectations are. Sure, we'd love to be a perennial top 25 team, just like everybody else (including a majority of P5 teams with much more money and scheduling flexibility that cannot say they are perennial top 25). We're certainly closer to that now than we've been the entire time I've been following Tech.
We were picked to finish 3rd in the WEST this year. The QB everybody loves to hate put up a great season and then he screwed the pooch. Just like everybody else, I mourn what could've been, but let's not act like what could've been was expected. Most here said we MIGHT get 8 wins. We're there now with 2 games left.
I'm not saying to "be satisfied" with what we've got, but when we fail to acknowledge progress we resemble the internet squirrels we're often accused of being. A conference championship (first one in 8 years) would be progress.
The season is not over. Maybe the dream of YE top 25 is, but I'm not convinced that would've put a ton of butts in the seats either. I think we need to continue to make progress. Most of the attendance gripes have been more about the administration than the play on the field. A top 25 finish wouldn't change that.
I hear a lot about the casual fans. The casual fans don't know the details of the "fubar", so I don't know that this is anywhere near the travesty of that 2012 team not bowling. I suppose we'll see.

I don't assume a dang thing. But yes I will tell you I still believe in "PAY THE MAN and his staff!! The actions of a select few doesn't negate what Skip has built here at TECH.
If not paid, it will be another 5 + years until we even sniff a 11-1 , 10-2, 9-3 season again.
Really, the one thing I'm PO'd at our staff is the lack of backup QB's on our team. And that goes back to Skip's previous coaching staff not here now as well.
