Have there been any son-coaches that succeeded more than their dad-coach? Seems most of them don’t. There have certainly been sons greater than their dads as players.

Bill Snyder's son isn't currently coaching, I don't think. But I guess he'd qualify - wasn't that part of the stickiness over Bill staying so long? He wanted his kid to take over?
Have there been any son-coaches more successful than their dad-coach as head coaches? Seems like most of them aren’t as good.
No doubt have been many sons greater than their dads as players. Coaching, eh.
I would say Sonny Dykes comes close to outperforming his dad. Spike Dykes was Texas Tech's coach for 13 years, and had an 82-67-1 record. He wasn't tremendously successful, winning only 54.7% of his games. Spike's bowl record was 2-5, but that's back when bowl games were really tough to win. Spike's biggest claim to fame seems to be that he beat Texas 6 times and TX A&M 6 times. He did get inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame in 2008.

Nope. His dad was Big Nick Saban, great playground coach in West Virginia. Giant influence on his son. He talks about his dad often. Made Nick the man he is today. His dad was a small business owner and taught his son how to pay attention to the little things, seems to work well for his son.
Holtz, clearly.
Lou never won 5 straight bowl games, that's for sure. I mean, he did win a NC and have success nearly everywhere he went, but who's counting!
(Lou was 2 points away from winning 6 straight NY6 bowls, losing the 1991 Orange Bowl 9-10 to Colorado).
Indeed, he does. Sonny's head coaching record is only 56-55, but he should still have a lot of runway ahead of him in his coaching career. He could still win a lot more games than he loses at SMU, or he could parlay the SMU job into a nice P5 job somewhere for a bigger payday.
