    Back in the day...

Back in the 1970's, before conference affiliations became the critical factor, Tulane was an independent in basketball too. They played an awesome schedule. I saw them play #1 ranked North Carolina, Duke, Marquette, Kansas State, Michigan State, and some others. But back then there was the "City Series." The New Orleans schools: Tulane, UNO, Xavier, Dillard, and SUNO played a round robin to determine the city champion. Believe it or not, SUNO and the other "small" schools were pretty good. Dillard had a guy who could shoot lights out from long range. His last name was Kelly, so they called him "Machine Gun" Kelly. He beat Tulane 96-94 in the city championship game scoring something like 60 points that night. Huge upset, but that guy was unreal that night.

Just another historic tidbit so this will remain the most informed board in the nation.

A meaningless, worthless game. Might as well play Ruston High.

I disagree. Xavion Christon got a lot of much needed playing time heading into conference season. Everyone played that dressed and all but one scored. Cobe got some minutes at PG in game action

A team scrimmage could’ve served the same purpose.
