Wisconsin lost...
longest consecutive bowl win streak in the nation at six!
After we beat Arky State, winning our second bowl game, I checked and, from memory, noted there were 13 schools who had won back to back bowls. I thought only 13 out of 130 schools? Wow! Must be a lot harder to go on a bowl win streak than I thought. Then after we beat Navy, 3 in a row, that number shrunk to 7. Got down to 4: us, UGA, Utah, and Wisconsin before last year's bowls. Then two...now just one.
Congrats to Coach Holtz, the architect of this bowl win streak. I have been critical of Holtz, at times, but he deserves kudos for this accomplishment.
That was an epic game in Pasadena too.
2014 - Illinois (Big Ten)
2015 - Arkansas State (Sun Belt)
2016 - Navy (American)
2017 - SMU (American)
2018 - Hawaii (MWC)
2019 - Miami (ACC)
Next on our list, we need to play and beat a Big 12 and SEC in a bowl (not sure how the bowl scenario would work out)
Awesome job by Coach Holtz, staff and players!
This is a huge accomplishment! We may not have won those conference championships, which is what we need, but this gains a LOT of national bragging rights. Winning bowls gets your name around better than anything else - especially against big names. Illinois and Miami are the biggest names we have played in that bowl win streak. I would argue that the Navy win in the Armed Forces Bowl is next up and the total demolishing of SMU gave us some swagger. Great Job Dawgs!!!!!!!!

I am Holtz's biggest critic but this is no small feat!
And we all know, as long time Tech faithful, we have been shafted out of bowl appearances in our past. Think back on the early '90s when we had back to back 9-win teams...no bowl. Then in 1999, 8-3, but beat SEC Champ Alabama, losses were to #1 ranked Florida State, Texas A&M, and Southern Cal. No bowl. Then of course that mess in 2012, 9-3, all three losses were to Top 25 ranked teams. No bowl. And there have been other years we might of/should of been rewarded with a bowl trip, but weren't.
This is why I place so much emphasis on bowling, lest we forget the years of disappointment. Never take these games for granted, and relish in our success too. For too long we were "bowl poor," but now, we are on a roll, and I'm loving it.
Next topic: conference championships. But that is for another thread.
Who has 6 rings? Holtz, Sloan, and Hester? Does McClelland get rings?
I agree. In fact, twice I started a thread to this effect but it was censored without explanation. Also--no surprise--my thread pointing out the censoring was censored.
Scheduling-wise, I'd like to see Tech routinely schedule a competitive P5 team, though not a perennial contender--your Ms State (not Bama), OK State (not Oklahoma), Purdue (not Ohio State), etc. And I'd like to see us routinely schedule P5 losers--Vandy, Kansas, Rutgers, etc.
That could give us some credibility if we were to get hot and win out. The fact is I think our team was talented enough to beat Texas if they'd showed up expecting to pull the upset.
Congrats to Coach Holtz though on this impressive streak.
