This is EXACTLY the point I kept emphasizing to the naysayers (Johnnylightnin, Dowty, DallasDog, etc....) before our Indy bowl game. If you are trying to increase your value for the draft, why in the world would you avoid the team's biggest stage? It just makes good business sense to go thru with the live interview.

You do realize we don't get the same payout for the Indy as two desired P5s (SEC and ACC) would have received right?

Also, we are lucky to get enough money to break even when 7 teams from C-USA are bowling. The money is pooled and paid out according to each team's expenses first.

I think everybody here knows that. Each conference likely has a different payout structure too, but we don't need to get into those weeds either. So, while your comment is factually correct, it just doesn't matter to the overall conversation, unless we want to start a separate thread discussing how each bowl pays its participating teams and maybe measure them against each other.

No your comment(s) don't matter. We get what we get when we make a bowl game. That is basically break even. Anything less than a NYD game is just adding to the pot that splits with all the CUSA teams. NO MONEY MADE IN BOWL GAMES for the G5s.

That's exactly right. I hated it for Amik and hope he doesn't or didn't get scammed.

Agreed. And never ever play a USL or NLU in one of their Belch Bowls; not that they'll ever sniff one again.

Hey Tyler....we're going to make one change to my post above:

"When it comes to bowl games, always go for the biggest stage (Indy Bowl's $2.2M payout vs NO Bowl's 825K payout) against the biggest brands, unless your name is PawDawg, because he's special, and he doesn't understand math."

Viewership is EVERYTHING! Even if we have a lower payout than our P5 opponent, the national exposure is worth more than triple that. ALWAYS go for a P5 opponent, when there is a choice. Perception Perception Perception!!!!!!!!!

Navy, BYU, Air Force, and Army are outliers in the G5 world. They all have national followings.

Those are interesting numbers. They don’t change my view of Amik’s choice. Risk/reward calculation was easy in his case.

Amik made his choice...he put himself ahead of the team.

Best part of that is the Dawgs pitched a shutout on national TV and did it without him. Guess Amik was not as good as some thought.

And that whole risk/reward bullshit....too funny! Okay, if playing in a bowl game is so hazardous then...well, then why play in a conference championship game then? Which is something most Tech players never have to worry about anyway. But, Oh my! why play the last regular season game then? Ya mean players can't have career-ending injuries in the 12th regular season game of their senior year? Of course they can, so skip it. And, what about the 11th regular season game in your senior year? Better skip that one too...and so on.

I respect his right to make his own decision. I don’t agree with it, but I get it. I wish every kid graduated, but some will leave early. I wish every kid played out the last snap of the season whether it was on November 28th or December 26th. Even if we wish they were different, our 21 year old kids are just like everyone else’s. They have handlers in their ear and they do what they are told, because they don’t know any better.

Here's a run down of LA Tech's bowl viewership the last 6 years. Please note that the Bulldogs have played in front of almost 11 million TV viewers in its' last 6 bowl games (actual number is 10.871 million TV viewers for 6 bowl games).

LA Tech vs Illinois drew 2.30 million viewers for the Heart of Dallas Bowl back on Dec 26th, 2014. The rating was 1.5.

Re: Bowl Game TV Ratings Are Out.......

So, does anyone think that the Indy Bowl learned a lesson? We have taught them the same lesson over and over. I know their concern is hotel rooms, but that pales in comparison to Tech fans eating at their restaurants, going to their bars, and the biggest lesson - TV VIEWERSHIP, which advertises Shreveport more than any one night can do. I would love to see a true economic impact study that encompasses future tourism over the next year coupled with that one night of Tech playing a P5 vs. other teams (especially the time they wouldn't wait on us for one day to decide and we didn't go to a bowl with, possibly, one of our most exciting offenses in years).

The lesson is the Indy Bowl and Shreveport/Bossier always benefit from Tech being in it! Against a P5 is gravy on top of that.
