This SHUTOUT of Miami elevated Tech's national rep beyond the ratings. IMO this has been our biggest win in the bowl winning streak. Navy was good, but everybody likes Navy. Lots of folks enjoyed watching Miami getting shut out. We won some fans.
You all that are are outside of Louisiana know that Tech has a very positive reputation and fans and teams respect us. Some friends who are Alabama diehards (actual graduates!) know exactly who Tech is. Every one @ A&M knows who we are. And now South Florida for sure does. Good days to be a Dawg.
He is not slated to be a qb at the next level -
There is some correlation - Amik will have to be more than just a DB at the next level if he wants to claim a roster spot - he could of played special teams during the bowl - out coaches could of highlighted him
The KY QB had a lot more to lose than Amik, and yet he was willing to take the risk
Amik - not so much
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Well, how about this! The TV numbers for the LA Tech vs Miami Independence Bowl have been REVISED, and now they are saying the ratings were even better! 2.77 MILLION people watched this year's game, up +36% over last years Indy Bowl. That's 400K more viewers than was initially reported on Jan 1st. Wow!!

Amik just had hip surgery so he had apparently been playing with an injury the last 4 games of the season. I am certain this had something to do with his not playing in the bowl game also. Hard to fault him for not playing with injury.
Miami vs LaTech is much more intriguing than Duke vs Temple.
The attendance of 33K is disappointing for what Tech usually delivers for the Indy Bowl. Yet! it was still a boost to the bowl's rep. So, even in a "down" year Tech once again produces for the Indy Bowl. Yet those idiots continue to look down their noses at us. And the revised TV ratings are more in keeping with what I was seeing on the blogs. EVERYONE was talking, and still are! about our win over Miami. In fact, just yesterday while Miami fans are touting the arrivals of portal transfers and proclaiming The U is back! several posters scoffed and posted: Louisiana Tech says hold my beer. Hah!
Bowl games matter. Especially for programs like Tech. Some can poo-pooh the so-called "minor" bowls yet it does give exposure, on a national scale, for programs who usually have to struggle to get it.
The extra 15 days of practice doesn't hurt either. It's ALL GOOD! Much better to be in a bowl versus not being, eh.
Totally agree... This was a win/win situation this year. As bad as the Indy Bowl reputation is, it still has name recognition. Add to that the U and Louisiana Tech and it is a huge boost for us and for the bowl. Too bad, the committee never seems to recognize this potential.
I think that The Independence Bowl got found a winning formula here. Tech vs Miami was as good as it gets for them. As for attendance, I think more people in Tech gear showed up for this game than any game in Ruston all year. Tech showed up, Shreveport didn't. That's not on us. I think that the folks in Shreveport will be working to build a better relationship with us after the continued coverage they have received from this game.
