Holtz will be in control. It's always a crap shoot with him. He thinks he is great at EVERYTHING...especially special teams.
Who will he hire to be his "boy" since Sloan is now his eyes in the sky?
You know I understood the general Tech angst under Bicknell, but the hate Holtz gets after a 10 win season kinda puzzles me. Without a poorly timed suspension it could've been 12. It's not flashy or exciting but 10 wins for Tech is pretty good historically. I can remember being excited to be in the Humanitarian Bowl, only to get killed by Clemson. If you told me then we'd have this many consecutive winning seasons and bowl wins, I would've called you a liar.
But everybody has their opinion. I get it. I just don't understand it.
Everybody just wants to see Tech football grow into more than just another a middle of the pack G5 football program. Many of us have been around long enough to remember watching all three NFL Hall of Famers grace our field. We've known success intermittently through the decades, but we've never been able to take it to that next level (like Boise St). As for me, I let that dream go a long time ago. We'll never have the resources it would take to get to that next level. Holtz does a great job of maintaining a respectable level of play, even with the worst budget to work with in all of CUSA. We all want more, but we'll never get it. Truth be known, what our football program is accomplishing right now under the leadership of Skip Holtz is probably the best things will ever be for Tech football. You young guys will look back on these times as the good old days.
I'd love to see us be a top tier G5 and potential P5 addition, but until we find a way to generate revenue it'll be hard to accomplish.
I guess what I'm saying is I'm not satisfied, but I'm proud of what we're doing.
"Hate" isn't the right word. We demand our athletic program give its best effort. Regardless of where you want to assign responsibility for the suspensions, the losses at Marshall & UAB did not reflect the football team's best effort.
When my kid gets a B on a test, that's generally a good thing. But when I know she could've made an A, but didn't because of an incomplete effort, then that B isn't good enough. I might be let down that she didnt do her best, but that's far from 'hate'.
And let's not forget, he's still here.
Did anyone on this board pick us to win 10 games before the season? We had a senior QB returning that none of us had much faith in and a new defensive coordinator who didn't inspire much confidence. We won 10 games, and all of a sudden, it's not good enough. I don't get it. Am I disappointed that we didn't win the conference? Yes. Am I angry at the suspensions? Yes. We had a chance for a truly historic season, and we blew it. But to say we should have done better is a stretch. The media picked us to finish third in the division. Not one of the 26 voters picked us to win. By all measures, given the preseason expectations, we overachieved in 2019.
