Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz announced the addition of David Blackwell to the 2020 football coaching staff on Thursday, January 23. Blackwell will take the reins of the Bulldog defense as its coordinator.

Hire what/ who you know. It’s the way most HC’s operate. Does it result in superior performance? Not usually. It’s a safe hire, someone Holtz knows he can work with / influence. There are probably 100 high school DC’s that are better than Blackwell, but why take the chance?
A very meh hire.
His credentials/history looks okay to me. Certainly no worse than most anyone we could afford and better than a lot of others. He has bounced around a lot, so if he's good, he'll be gone from Ruston in a year or two.
He does have a pool of southern players from Louisiana and Texas to be successful.

Nobody other than Holtz was high on Diaco going in.
Fixed it so it explains every WTF moment since he has arrived and also will be easy to put on a T-Shirt.
I think it's a pretty good hire.
Experienced guy with proven results. Diaco had the big name schools on his resume and the one really great season. Blackwell has done it at lower levels, but shown good improvements.
The ODU fans on the CUSA board have nothing but good things to say about Blackwell. In short, they say Blackwell's defense was the one good thing about their team during a miserable 2019 season.
A very good hire. Our defense will have to carry us next year as we'll have no QB.
We've done okay the past three years without a QB.
