It is based on the magnitude that small data errors and variability can make in exponential functions.
There was an interactive, or I should say, an animated graph posted on FACEBOOK!! (which means it was inaccurate). It showed a time lapsed bar graph, horizontally, starting back in January, with China with the most, then South Korea, and then Italy, and the USA lagging behind... as the positions changed, over time, the thought of a horserace just popped into mind. I could hear a track announcer like this:
They're off! China takes the early lead, followed by South Korea, now Italy comes up to challenge the leaders. Then later on....through the backstretch the USA is making a bold move, passing others like they are standing still. Into the stretch Italy is fighting gamely to hold on to the lead, but the USA is making a strong bid. Etc...anyway, some on that page didn't think it was funny. Of course, not everyone has my sense of humor, that's true.

And the new one set up in Central Park has only 12 I think I heard.
Likewise the U.S.N.S. Mercy, docked in LA, has a total of 15 patients.
You realize that these ships are not treating patients with COVID, right? They also aren’t accepting patients with around 50 other different types of illness.
Trump shouldn't have sent the ships to NY and Calif, he's not gonna carry those states anyway. Now, Florida! that's a battleground state! and Virginia is in play too.

Sorry if these have been posted at some point.
Dr. Fauci has been working on infectious diseases for almost 50 years.. That's a very long time, and I"m sure he is an expert on many topics. However with this new strain of Covid-19 he has been wrong on a few occasions. That's ok IMO, because everyone around the world is learning about this. My chief complaint about Dr. Fauci is that he's an academic. He is very book knowledgeable about diseases but like some workers I've had, they are overly cautious when it comes to getting things done. I've worked with very smart people, but they don't really deliver projects because they are over analytical and look for perfection before they make a decision or take action. They are usually very easy to spot, their projects are usually way behind schedule, and over budget. Many times you just have to weigh the pros/cons and take action one way or the other.

Looks like Fauci and others were wrong on there initial assessment. They saw their mistake and hit the panic button. It’s never a good a result when decisions makers hit the panic button.
