81K people infected...2,700 deaths, and over 30,000 recovered. That's a 10 to 1 ratio of people beating Covid-19. What makes viruses the most dangerous is their ability to invade host cells and "reprogram" that cell's metabolic activity to create more of the virus. Viruses are not living things as they cannot reproduce on their own. It actually is using the host's DNA/RNA to make up its own structure, which is why the body's defense mechanisms don't recognize it as a threat. Vaccines are designed to alert the body's defenses when strands of DNA/RNA are floating around.

In these matters I think it is wise to take ordinary precautions. Okay...maybe Covid-19 might turn out to be much ado about nothing. But, it doesn't hurt to exercise some common sense and implement some measures. Of course, if we were to place a travel ban on people coming from infected areas, we'll be called racists. And, we can't have that....

More than likely Italy got hit by travel through Africa. The Chinese have been colonizing Africa for a couple of decades and is the first place Chinese would go to try to avoid the outbreak in mainland China.
No cases counted in Africa simply because there are no "kits" to test for C19 there.

The patient didn’t have a relevant travel history or exposure to another patient with the virus, the CDC said Wednesday.“

A guy I work with just returned from a two week vacation in Italy. He spent time in Milan, Venice, and Rome, all of which have been hard hit with the virus. He claims that he was never screened in any way upon reentering the US. Though he and his wife have no symptoms of the virus, they could both easily be infected and could be spreading the virus to dozens of people as we speak. If this is an example of how secure our borders are where this virus is concerned, then God help us. I believe that a full blown pandemic is inevitable.

The new US case is from the same county as Travis Air Force base which received some folks from the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
