Oh yeah, Trump was promoting the idea that the coronavirus was under control.
    Let's take a look at a timeline:

January 6 2020 : CDC issues Travel Watch Level 1 to Wuhan China
CDC offers to send team to China to assist - offer refused

January 14 2020: WHO states no evidence that Coronavirus is transmitted from human to human.

January 21 2020: 1st Case of Coronavirus in US. Washington State

Jan 25, 2020: US Citizens in Wuhan evacuated via Charter Jets - Put into 14 day quarantine.

Jan 27 2020: CDC / State Dept expands travel alert to Level 3 for all of China

Jan 31 2020 US declares Public Health Emergency
US closes borders to all travel to/from China and to any non US Citizens who may have traveled through China or other high risk areas.

CDC advised Trump that they and private sector had testing kits under control.. He listened to his advisors. Which many slam him for not doing enough of.. guess what, his advisors (CDC) was wrong in this case.

Based upon the timeline, Trump admin had a measured appropriate response to the outbreak as things developed. Remember back in January.. democrats like Goosey were screeching.. "Trump is not doing enough".. Then he closes borders.. then they screech.. "OMG Trump is Over Reacting". Even sleep Joe criticized Trump on Jan 31, calling his closing of borders as Xenophobic and Racist..

Everyone has to remember, Trump could cure the disease tomorrow and people like Goosey will complain.. They just can't help themselves.

Nobody and I mean nobody knew if this was just going to be just another flu out of a leftist and/or commie country or a pandemic type for a long time (as testing on various flus go); much less worldwide by spread of the Chinese people and government. But still China wouldn’t let American scientist/CDC or doctors in when Trump offered to help early on. Heck I don’t think they will now.

    Truth!

Original estimates of 250,000 deaths in UK have been revised to no more than 20,000. Still too many dying, but this is good news.

Yes, we knew this was more infective and more lethal than the flu.

Early on, and for awhile, medical science (using a generic term) was saying it would probably be more contagious than the average flu, but not as lethal. I'm still not sure I've heard anything definitive saying it was both highly contagious AND more lethal than a flu epidemic. Surely you have a link to something reliable...

An article discussing it at the same time that Trump declared the coronavirus under control.

Hell, you could just look at this thread. Except for a few with Trump dingleberries stuck in their whiskers (DnW, Hogdawg, Pawdawg and Cartek mainly) most of us were talking about how much more lethality and infective than the flu it is. Even some of the normal Trumphards were calling out its pandemic potential (brtransplant, yourself, Ray).

According to the CDC website .02% of those infected with the Swine Flu of 2009 died, in the US. That was 12,500 deaths in nearly 61 million cases. So far, in the US, the death rate in C-19 is at 1.4%. Or, seven times higher than the Swine Flu. The 2009 numbers for that flu are adjusted with the hindsight of after-testing and research. Right now the CDC is just flying by the seat of its pants, accepting as factual all reports. That's what one would expect. Next year they will be able to take a harder look at many (most) of the cases and perhaps adjust the death rate up or down.

Regardless, if C-19 is truly (and I suppose it is) 7X more lethal than a flu like the 2009 Swine version...whoa! Add to that it's more contagious! Double whoa! [Dawg80 zips up his space suit and turns on Netflix...]

Oh hell! that's 70X more lethal! That can't be right.

Globally the death rate is at 4.5% 23,000+ deaths in 509,000+ cases!

Did 61 million Americans get the Swine Flu? Really? That's about 1 out of 5. But, that's the number on the CDC website.

    From the article:

The data over the last week, and the spread in other countries, has raised our level of concern and our level of expectation we’re going to have community spread here,” said Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at CDC. “It’s not a question of if this will happen, but when this will happen, and how many people in this country will have severe illnesses.”

“I don’t think the answer is shutting down the world to stop this virus. It’s already out,” said Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy.

“When several countries have widespread transmission, then spillover to other countries is inevitable,” said Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“We are at a turning point in the Covid-19 epidemic,” said Lawrence Gostin, a global health law professor at Georgetown University. “We must prepare for the foreseeable possibility, even probability, that Covid-19 may soon become a pandemic affecting countries on virtually all continents.”

This is what the experts were saying at the same time Trump was declaring that the coronavirus was under control.

Why was he saying the opposite of the experts at that time? Did he not believe them? Or was he lying?

    Re: Covid - 19

Assuming we can agree that the Covid-19 total case numbers are understated, it still looks unlikely it will approach any of the flu numbers:

2019-2020 US Flu Season thru 03/14/2020: 38M-54M flu illnesses, 17M-25M flu medical visits, 390K-710K flu hospitalizations, 23K-59K flu deaths

    2020 US Covid-19 thru 03/25/2020: 69K total cases, 994 total deaths
