Coronavirus will have a significant impact on global GDP this year. But stocks have been a bit offsides, (increasingly) for several months with the momentum and crowded trades (trillion dollars market cap club) pulling the market ever higher. Not an obscene amount like during the dot com era, but the bond market has been signaling a global slowdown and there has been an industrial showdown occurring here driven by a reduction in CAPEX.
The market has been flooded with liquidity with negative and ultra-low rates by central bankers which have helped fuel the inflation of financial asset prices. We will see if the Fed decides they need to keep adding to the accommodation - Fed futures indicate the market is pricing in 3 more rate cuts this year. Will see if they deliver. Not sure it really makes much of a difference when the 10 year treasury is already at record lows. I guess uninverting the yield curve is a worthy objective in and of itself.
This is not nearly as healthy of an economy as the indexes appeared to show less than 2 weeks ago.
I personally don’t think a recession is likely this year, but consumer confidence is the one thing that has been keeping this bull market going. That can start to fall apart if the government counties to bungle this Coronavirus response or small businesses start laying people off due to closures.

Look..... part of the discussion in this thread was the "panic" of people and the market. CNN is a global network and is causing even more panic in humans and the market/companies. So I posted their stupidity and almost glee in this happening during this election year and saying it's trump's fault. Politics at the worst!!
The article doesn’t talk about panic. It talks about CNN pointing out issues with Trump’s handling of C19.

While Trump was creating his task force, pledging 100 million to China to fight the virus and restricting travel to areas hit hard by infection, the dems and CNN were still working on trying to overturn the 2016 election...now they shamelessly continue their stupidity (pay attention Guisslapp because this applies to you as well) in politicizing a friggin virus and spreading panic like the chicken shit morons they are.
I hope it’s spread to Africa does not make the mortality rate tick up.
It has been outside of China for a shorter period of time. Those that die usually die a couple weeks after getting the virus.
