FWIW, there are lots of unused shots scattered around. I know many younger people who were able to qualify because their spouse is a care giver and they qualified for the left overs. I don't have a problem with that.

Apparently at risk blacks are not wanting to take the shots and this is causing a surplus. I know several at risk whites are are not going to take the shot(s) either.

My Mom's nursing home has approx 100 residents. Of the 100 only 5 residents elected not to take the shot(s). Several of the workers opted out. Bad deal there. They should be fired, but that can't happen. Those few idiots will prevent visits for who knows how much longer.

As a member of the hospital board (non-voting) I qualified for the shot and got my first dose this morning here even though Kyle and I qualified to get it through Deb's place of employment (you are placed on a list and given a call and assigned an appt in a window that is usually an hour or less of advance notice) in the situation you are describing...

To the best of my knowledge there have been between 500 - 600 doses made available to date here in the Parish as of this Monday

We are begging the governors office for doses because we have the ability to distribute them in a timely and orderly fashion to our populace but it falls mainly on deaf ears

Nice clip taken out of context when Biden is talking about the economic impact that the pandemic will have on evictions.

The American Rescue Plan also addresses the growing housing crisis in America. Approximately 14 million Americans — 14 million — have fallen behind on rent, and many risk eviction. If we fail to act, there’ll be a wave of evictions and foreclosures in the coming months as this pandemic rages on, because there’s nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months.

So, look, this would overwhelm emergency shelters and increase COVID-19 infections as people have nowhere to go and are socially — can’t socially distance.

My mom got the call to come get hers at Brookshire’s (they use the pharmacy there). She told them that she was only 69 and so she didn’t get it. They would’ve just given it to her if she showed up, but she didn’t feel good about it.

I hope somebody manages the hell out of it because it’s the fastest way to get opened back up all the way.

Reports: Nearly 200 National Guard Members Test Positive for COVID-19

Nearly 200 National Guard members who deployed to Washington, DC, after a riot at the Capitol and in advance of the inauguration, have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are quarantining in nearby hotels, according to reports.

Politico reported Friday that more than a hundred National Guard members have tested positive for COVID-19 and several hundred more are quarantining in hotels. The outlet reported that some Guard members are being forced to find their own tests and others were being pressured to leave quarantine and report to duty.

Guard leadership has declined to release an official number of positive cases, but troops and lawmakers alike worry that the deployment is becoming a superspreader event.

Wall Street Journal reported that nearly 200 members have tested positive for COVID-19, and that some officials fear that cramped rest and working quarters contributed to the spread.

More than 26,000 National Guard members from all 50 states, three territories, and D.C. deployed to secure the inauguration for Biden on Wednesday, after fears over potential political violence after some pro-Trump supporters broke into the Capitol building on January 6.

As the National Guard members trickled into the Capitol, photos posted on social media showed hundreds of them sleeping on the floors in the Capitol building, often packed closely together with no social distancing.

On Thursday, after the inauguration, thousands of troops were reportedly told to go rest in a parking garage instead of inside the Capitol building. Photos emerged of them resting on the concrete floors of the garage, also packed closely together.

The Washington Post reported that some were inhaling car exhaust. Politico reported there was no internet connection, and only one power outlet and one bathroom with two toilets for 5,000 troops.

The Senate Rules Committee is investigating concerns about the National Guard implementing proper COVID-19 precautions, Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) told Politico.

The Guard is reportedly trying to test all Guard members before they go back home to limit the virus’s spread.

The National Guard announced Thursday, amidst outcry over the parking garage relocation, that 15,000 troops would return home, and 10,600 would remain for the time being, to go down to 7,000 through the end of January.

Population of US is basically 330,000,000 or so

Claiming to have 100,000,000 completed vaccinations within the next 100 days - basically May 1st

Which would equate into basically slightly less than 1 out of every 3 persons being vaccinated

NO WAY IN HELL that happens by May 1st

They will be lucky if it happens by September 1st realistically

That article doesn’t say states wanted control and it doesn’t say that California and New York shot it down.

It does say Trump exaggerated the level of military involvement.
