Oh, not to mention medical science, the real one, is learning more and more about the China virus. Just saw a real doctor and epidemic-expert on a blog, a 10-minute video, where she explains the evolution of a virus. Viruses have very short generations...measured in mere days, in some cases. That is why viruses change, and change quickly. It looks like this China virus has mutated to a more contagious, but less lethal, form. If...IF...(please note the use of the term "IF") the virus has been, and is, as some evidence points to, then it is a real possibility the China virus is not as lethal as the numbers indicate. More so than the average flu virus because the China virus IS NOT an influenza strain, it is a SARS strain. They tend to be more lethal because there is never any treatments sitting on pharmacy shelves waiting to be deployed to the general public. Back to the less lethal part...this medical researcher says some prediction models have placed US infections at more than 100 million and quickly growing.
Well...as I watched the video, with an open mind, I asked myself...if this is true, the China virus is very, very contagious and 1/3 to maybe HALF the US population has been infected AND it is more lethal due to a lack of specific treatments (although there are some out there and more coming), then why isn't the death rate higher than it is?
Let's examine some of the data...
Best estimates, by real medical science, place US deaths from the China virus, at 63,450 (as of the publication of that video which is time-stamped September 26, about a week ago). Using 130 million as an assumed infection amount, that's a .048% death rate. By comparison the 2009-10 Mexican "swine" flu had 61 million infections and 18,500 deaths, for death rate of .030% death rate. Clearly this SARS strain is more lethal than the average influenza strain of virus...but then medical science already knew that.
