Maybe our whole team should identify as females. We could win a CUSA title that way.
Basketball has suffered ( Men’s and Women’s) from chasing “1A” for football. Hell all sports have suffered from this, including Football.
???
WBB is and has been history for many years. If anything football has suffered from pumping extra (wasted) money into WBB.
MBB has suffered for many reasons, but football is not and NEVER has been one of them.
What was once important in football (6 wins, bowl games, TV appearances) are only judged as part of success by those who are satisfied with being average. We continue to be held back by lack of leadership.
It would definitely be a factor.
What are the respective records of the coaches, what are their conference records, records against P5’s and post season records would all figure into the equation.
What I said was White, like Konkol, never made it to the NCAA tournament at Tech.
But isn't this what people travel to see, and Holtz gets more money from? Meaningless bowl games. When 60+% of FBS teams make a bowl now. < 30% of basketball teams make the NCAA and NIT combined. Not necessarily disagreeing with your sarcasm, but the football team is portrayed by local media and administration as successful, but basketball is considered a failure even though they both have the same regular season result of not reaching their full potential.
I feel the same way about Tech athletics as a guy who does private baseball lessons in town. A former pro, he gets pissed if you encourage your kid when they foul off a pitch. Basically, he only celebrates success. Hitting the mitt, putting the ball in play, or making the play in the field. We celebrate regular season success, bowl games, and non NCAA championship post season tourneys like they are the ultimate goal, when they might as well just be a foul tip.
You nailed it!
We all love Tech here. We want Tech to be successful, across the board. And as fans we are grasping for straws, any port in a storm, and any other metaphors you care to use. It's like I've said about Holtz, I can appreciate his "successes" while at the same time wanting him (Tech) to accomplish more.
As for fouling off a pitch...well, I've seen times when a hitter stayed alive with two strikes when the pitcher was absolutely bringing it and just getting a piece of a hard slider or a screw ball in on his hands, but in the strike zone, was a job well done. About 25-30% of those times that same hitter reached base. Wouldn't have happened at all if not for that foul ball.
