    Scary realization about surveillance

The other night, my son was complaining that his ear felt funny and that he couldn’t hear very well. My wife asked if it felt like wax or something stuck in his ear canal. A few minutes later, he told us he could hear and some wax had fallen out of his ear. The next morning, at the top of my wife’s Facebook feed, there was an article for removing ear wax. Her phone wasn’t even in the room when all this happened the night before. People say that the government is listening, but come on!

So, chalk that up as a weird coincidence? Since we had no digital footprint on any device concerning that topic? Seems like a stretch.

Could be, but big data is very powerful. FB knows where you live and the internet trends of your community. Possible that they know that it is allergy season where you live and maybe there was an uptick in searches relating to blocked ears in your region.

Honestly, this kind of stuff makes me want to throw my phones, computers, and TVs away.

The Internet might be “free” in that your don’t pay money for many sites and platforms, but that is because they know that in the long run your data is much more valuable to them.

And beyond the Internet, here is the future of retail shopping:

If something is free for you, you're not the customer. You're the product being sold.
