Boise State coaches will be required to take furloughs as the university deals with funding shortfalls due to the coronavirus pandemic.
University President Marlene Tromp emailed faculty and staff about the furloughs on Monday, saying events that have been canceled stretching into summer have contributed to nearly $10 million in losses. A university spokesman confirmed Monday night that coaches are included in the furloughs.

The thread title is misleading. There's no "Wow" about this. We're going to see a lot more of this. Even when we do go back to work, it's going to be several months before everything returns to "normal".

The ODU AD has been bitching about expenses since the day ODU joined CUSA. This is what happens when you let a "newbie" FCS school join an FBS league for the first time. It should have never happened. It was far too much, too soon, for ODU to consume, and now they are a constant source of bad publicity for CUSA.
I honestly wish CUSA would suspend the ODU program for 2 years, because they do nothing but hurt the conference with bad publicity. If you want to read something positive about a G5 conference, you can read about the AAC (P6?), the MWC or even the Sunbelt. But I can't remember the last time I saw any positive news about CUSA. It's all negative, and about 90% of the negativity is initiated by ODU.
Simply put, despite the size of their budget (which is one of the largest in CUSA), Monarch football has had a very rough go in CUSA. Their football program is just awful, posting a 31-42 record since joining CUSA in 2014. Surprisingly, ODU's biggest football win of all time was their 30-27 OT conference win over LA Tech in 2014. (Shame on Tech!) But the Monarchs have no Div 1A FBS vision. ODU is 10-26 over the last 3 football seasons, with last year's 1-11 season being the worst. They bottomed out, and finally fired Bobby Wilder at the end of the 2019 season. They have now turned over the keys to a former OC from Penn State.
The bottom line is, ODU has found their transition to FBS much more difficult than they expected. But these are the type of stories you'll see when someone's program is down, and they are really struggling in football.
