I think we'll see more of it because it is trendy, not because of the potential safety. I actually think some of the overbearing governors like JBE will issue an "exective order" demanding all residents wear a mask when outside of their home. Either one of these will be a problem since there are no strict guidelines on the masks/facecoverings.
Mike Dewine, the Republican governor of Ohio, spoke about this on Sunday. Masks should be mandated for all customers within retail stores. They aren't because of the public backlash.

I don't think you'll see an order in Louisiana for everyone to wear masks outside of their homes. That would never work. But an order for masks by customers within retail businesses could be coming soon, backlash and all.

At some point you're going to see retail store employees demand it.

Seen the over achievers that are currently working the doors of stores keeping up with the number of shoppers? These are the peeps who will be "inspecting" the face coverings.

I have no problem with it. The teenagers and others who work in retail deserve some type of protection from those who believe nothing is going on.

The reason it isn’t a government mandate in TX is because our sorry governor said it wasn’t and couldn’t be, blocking our cities and counties from implementing their own mask mandates.

My point regarding masks/face coverings is and has always been that some people actually work to help prevent their germs from escaping the masks. Other just wear useless crap across their face that does very little if any good. Consistency would be nice, but we don't want to offend anybody by being consistent.

This is an unwinnable argument - the more you mandate masks, the more people get up in arms about the government telling them what to do and trampling their "right" to get their hair cut or whatever. But if you just ask people to do it, then all of a sudden it must not really be worth doing or they would have made it mandatory.

Unfortunately face masks have become a new party line thing. Bizarre, but true.

Yeah, re-breathing a little carbon dioxide over and over all day never hurt anyone.

No, it's more because people's liberties and freedoms are being trampled on.

First, ask yourself if it's even constitutional for our government to mandate mask-wearing in public and private spaces? Next, ask if it's constitutional for state & local governments to force businesses to shut down against their will?

Yet some folks in Texas can’t even follow the recommendations in the absence of a mandate. Any explanation for that?

How is it less so than mandating speed limits, or zoning restrictions, or public decency laws, or sound ordinances?

Sure. It's a recommendation, not a mandate. You do know the definition of a "recommendation", don't you? A recommendation doesn't have to be followed. What's so hard to understand about that?

It sounds like you are of the opinion that "recommendations" absolutely MUST BE FOLLOWED, as if they were mandates? There is a difference.

You need to make up your mind:

    1) Are you just upset that the people of Texas aren't following the non-mandated "recommendations" --which have no legal basis anyway-- and in reality don't have to be followed anyway?

    2) Or, are you just upset that the Texas Governor didn't strip the people of their constitutional rights and MANDATE the silly things you wanted mandated? Which is it?

Never mind that the state of Texas --with almost 30 million people-- has one of the lowest death rates in the country. To date, Texas has had only 902 deaths contributed to coronavirus. Comparatively, the state of Louisiana --with a population of only 4.6 million-- has lost 2,064 people to coronavirus.

The "lock it all down" crowd like you still hasn't bothered to explain how it improves public health to have hospitals going bankrupt and food supply chains drying up.
