    2021 Baseball Season

@KendallRogers: SOURCES: There have been discussions with some coaches/administrators/conferences about potentially trimming the 2021 season down to 48 games, sticking with a regional non-conference scheduling approach and more. Next few months will be mighty interesting in college baseball.

If the situtation allows, I hope the NCAA allows some type of summer ball. Many of the Summer Leagues are cancelled, so the players reps are severely reduced this year. Tech could play various teams throughout the region, even NAIA, D3, etc.

SOURCES: I’m expecting a ton of scheduling changes in 2021. The first one, though, is @NCStateBaseball has been forced to back out of the 2021 Round Rock Classic in an effort to save costs. #Pack9 could return to the tourney in future, but won’t happen in ’21. They won’t be alone

Baseball is perfect for tournament format. A team can easily play twice in the same day. When I played American Legion ball....waaaaay back in the day...we played in a lot of tourneys of 8 teams with a double-elimination format. It was exciting. The pressure was on from the first pitch. That first day 4 teams found themselves in the losers' bracket facing elimination from then on. You didn't want to be one of those four. And it can be played in one ballpark which assures good attendance, concessions, etc...the whole atmosphere of tourneys like that is great. As a fan it is awesome too! You can munch a hotdog and watch baseball all day long, and when your team isn't playing, you can watch other games, without the nail-biting pressure of rooting for your team, and just enjoy the games.

If Shreveport had a decent facility...what about LSUS? that's a possibility...a tourney of Tech, NSU, LSUS, Centenary, LeTourneau, East Texas State (aTm-Commerce???) (if they still have sports), Louisiana College, Grambling...that's 8. Maybe LSUA if another school is needed. I would think teams would be seeded and Tech and NSU placed in opposite brackets. Or! just pick names out of a hat and let the chips fall where they may. These kind of tourneys are played Friday-Sunday, one weekend....weather permitting, of course.

LSUS isn't a great facility, but there are 2 fields right next to each other (LSUS & C. E. Byrd).

    8 Teams
    LA Tech
    Grambling
    LSUS
    Centenary
    BPCC
    NW St
    ETBU
    Wiley College

If played at LSUS campus you could have a double or triple elimination tourney w/ a consolation bracket - that way all teams played a minimum number of games.

Dang! I forgot about BPCC. But, yep, this would work.

Shreveport/Bossier lacks a good baseball park.

Looking outside of Shreveport, I found UT Tyler (DII). They have a solid program and are 5-1 over the Cajuns (2016, 2017). Very nice facility for their size school.

Wouldn't it be funny if UAB dropped football again...just saying.

.@FurmanBaseball officially announces that the program has been cut. Also, they are cutting 45 scholarships across the athletic department. #Furman WILL honor scholarships of the baseball players.

@KendallRogers: This probably gives you a pretty good idea of how confident those around Chicago State are that baseball will be eliminated. Pretty much the entire team is now in the portal, I’m told.

Boise becomes 3rd D1 school to drop baseball (Chicago State & Furman). BGSU former players raised enough money to save the Falcons.

I never knew they started baseball. Interesting.

BTW, remember when part of the deal UNT made with C-USA to join was the promise they would start baseball? Man we've had some bad leadership in C-USA over the years we've been in.
