The UL-X twins were also scheduled to play SEC teams on that date. Also, the NCAA is allowing all teams to play on Week 0.
So is the Big XII next? If they do, should C-USA go conference only - adding to more eastern teams to our schedule, or would we rather add 2 more regionally located games (G5/FCS)?
If I were a betting man, I'd bet on the B12 going the same route in the next few days. There's not much percentage in being the only P5 conference playing OOC.
Going to a 10 game CUSA conference schedule would provide the most flexibility but would add substantial travel cost.
Financially it would be better to go with an 8 conference game schedule, then a scheduling arrangement between CUSA, AAC, Sunbelt for the addition of two games against regional opponents.
If C-USA were to add 2 more games, I think I'd prefer to play H/H with divisional opponent. i.e. we can play USM at Home and Rice on the road.
Play your Basketball travel partner twice and another divisional opponent twice.
Since Covid is changing the landscape of college football, what about going to a conference only schedule for ALL FBS conferences and then create a playoff system where ALL conference champions got seeded into the playoffs.
It would be fair to everyone, make the season competitive, and create an exciting playoff similar to March madness.
Cost and risk both, right? If the point is really to reduce travel for large groups of people, you don't want to add cross-divisional CUSA games. 8 conference games and then if you want some more (and think you can do it safely) you allow some OOC games with whoever might still be playing OOC games at that point.
The Big 12 is on notice saying they want to keep a full schedule. Doubt that is the case now that all the others have went another way. I hope the Big 12 decides soon so the G5 can react with all available information. In an ideal world the G5 commissioners try to react in unison.

I found this helpful in explaining why these P5 conference are more comfortable with Georgia/Missouri than Georgia/Georgia Tech.
