Let's volunteer to scrap the majority of our current schedule and be the 1 OOC for all ten of the BIG12 schools. We could be an unofficial conference member for the season. Maybe we could win a few. Only on XBox i guess.

UConn 1st FBS team to cancel season https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...us/3297475001/
Probably a nice out for UCONN. Life as an independent wasn't going to be easy anyway, and in this COVID environment the stakes are even higher.
As a football independent, UConn watched games against Illinois, Indiana, Maine and Mississippi float off the schedule, as leagues transition to a "conference-only" schedule due to coronavirus concerns; the Huskies were also unsure if contests against North Carolina and Virginia would be played.
Hopefully T-MAC is on the phone RIGHT NOW, scheduling a replacement game for the loss of Vanderbilt on our 2020 schedule. In fact, since we are in a conference, we might have the leverage right now to get BYU in Ruston this season. BYU just needs games.
It meant nothing for BYU unless the Cougs could convince an ACC school to host BYU as their one non-conference game. Objectively speaking, why would an ACC school do that? If it's not an in-state rival and you only get one, wouldn't you elect for an FCS schools or a low-level G5 and try to guarantee that extra win? Probably.
Let's see.......USL or BYU?
I choose what's best for LA Tech: A home game in Ruston vs BYU. This is a great opportunity to align ourselves with BYU. Why not get out of the "Sunbelt" mindset and take it? A LA Tech vs BYU game might even be picked up by network TV. BYU pulls large crowds, USL doesn't.
The other independents have lots of G5 games, so weirdly might be in better shape than UCONN or BYU.
But if the G5s go to conference only, they'll quickly be toast, too. Just aren't enough of them to play each other (unless they do like NMSU and Liberty and play each other multiple times - what would that be like? playing the same team like 4 times in a season?).
If attendance ends up being capped, it won't really matter (might not matter anyway if people just choose not to attend even if they would be allowed).
If you wanted to make a deal with BYU, 2020 would be the year for the road game (and I agree that if we're set on getting 12 games this would be a decent team to start a 1-and-1 series with - I just think you want the road game this season).
Here are the Independent Schedules :https://fbschedules.com/fbs-independ...ball-schedule/
Army has had at least 4 games cancelled - I could see them adding BYU or maybe another MAC game since it's regional
BYU has had 6 games cancelled - the could add more MWC games - they also don't have any independents on the schedule.
UMass has only had 2 games cancelled - they could stand pat or add MAC/BYU
UConn had 6 games cancelled before deciding to forgo their season - 5 P5 & 1 FCS.
NMSU has had 3 games cancelled & 1 postponed - NM Gov doesn't want FB played in state, so their season could be in Jeopardy.
Liberty has had 5 games cancelled - they can easily fill with C-USA/SBC/MAC if they want
