New AD | Dr. Eric Wood

Have you guys heard about us hiring a new AD? I have...while Tommy Mac is good...no questions asked...we've got a homegrown hero right amongst us. His name is Adam McGuirt..and he's a TECH man to the core, and has been given so much responsibility in regards to Tornado Recovery...and then this Covid Crap.

Anyway...I officially hold all my LTAC money until this guy is named AD.

Again...nothing against Tommy Mac..but we've been overlooking a gem in our pile of dirt...and I hope y'all feel the same way.

In these truly uncertain times I feel as if this man is the way to go...and quite possibly..our only hope.

I'm not one to kiss and tell but when the you know what hit the fan lately he was named "Head of Recovery Taskforce" or the like. What it meant was he was our man in our darkest hour ...and he remains so..Adam for AD!

    Re: New AD

Whoever the next AD is has to be better at scheduling football and men's hoops. I didn't say it was easy...if it were easy anyone could do it, including Hogdawg. But that's why we need someone who can make things happen, by hook or crook! Also, gameday experience has to improve and that means, in some cases, going back to the way things were before TMAC effed 'em up. Finally, the new AD has to get more folks involved in Tech athletics...as fans, supporters, contributors. A good start would be making kids' tickets $3 and having sections for adults for $5. Empty seats don't help anyone and contribute ZERO to the cause.

We're not gonna hire a new AD "in these uncertain times."

And I don't envy whoever it is - they'll have more than a right mess to clean up.

Nice to have a non-covid thread.

marketdawg had a pregnant idea. Maybe it will deliver in nine months. Got to know Adam when he was with the Alumni Association.
Made several bus trips with him and he really took care of us older alumni. He is true blue and not purple. I believe he would make a very
    good AD.

ummm ... there may be a few questions.

I'd be happy to support Adam as AD. He returns calls and speaks to me in public.

    So lets post!

Would it be beneficial to "grow" guys like Adam outside Ruston before bringing them back in? I'm not opposed to cradle-to-grave recruiting but I also want to benefit from experience at other places that might be doing it better.

I can't see us just pushing TMac aside. Now he may be getting a message to start looking for an SEC/Big12/ACC Associate or Assistant AD job. But just replacing him outright, I just don't see it.

He always did from the very beginning and still does today. He would be a great choice.

    Re: New AD

This has been a 'pet peeve' of mine since we hired the Southland Conference reject to lead our athletics. As suspected/predicted, we have gotten 'Southland Conference' results. While I like the idea of a Tech man being in that seat and I really like Adam, both personally and professionally, is he the right guy at this juncture? Could he be a great #2 for a more high profile guy in the big seat????

That being said, what if we elevated Skip to the AD slot in a dual role - AD/HC (a la Dooley)? He has the contacts for scheduling and could be a great 'face' for us to politic in gaining a slot in the American Conference? He has ties and tenure at So Florida and E Carolina (he also has his Dad to help us politic with the others), along with our solid history with SMU and Tulsa. Skip likes the limelight and if he would delegate his 'day to day' coaching, he would be a good leader of the department, especially with a #2 like Adam.

TMac must have been reading this. He blasted rumors of a CUSA/SBC merger, slamming UL-L along the way. Pretty funny stuff.

What did he say about Lafayette? I missed that part.

BTW, notice the state news many references to "The University of Louisiana System" during this pandemic? This is why our legislature and UL presidents should have enforced the rules passed instead of just laughing them off. No doubt that a large portion of our population considers Lafayette the fagship of the UL system.

He stated that if CUSA expanded membership then there would be numerous Sun Belt schools willing to pay the cost and make the move (a level up). If the Sun Belt was to try to expand membership then none of the CUSA schools would be interested. He congratulated ULL on starting a conversation that he considers moot.

    That's great!

I heard part of the interview on the drive to work this morning.

I've been one of his critics for changing things that didn't need to be changed. I commend him for not towing the line on this non issue.
