My kids watched the whole lead up...then, disappointment. Learn the lesson early! Ha!
Time is your friend. Impulse is your enemy. -John Bogle
I grew up following the space program. Remember watching Neil Armstrong's first step...glued to the TV. We usually watched ABC's coverage with Frank Reynolds and Science Editor Jules Bergman. But, if you have never seen it look on YouTube for Walter Cronkite's coverage of the moon landing...if it doesn't give you chills you are unAmerican.
We also had a very good friend who was an astronaut, lived across the street from us. He never made it into space but did pilot an X-15.
Frank Reynolds was THE BEST! They don't make reporters like that anymore. He was a front line, straight on the facts "reporter" even though he was an anchor. Read this, and it will give you a feel for who Frank Reynolds was:
Reagan assassination attempt coverage episode, 1981
One famous moment in Reynolds' career occurred on March 30, 1981, during live news coverage of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Early reports received by his newsroom had indicated that press secretary James Brady and others had been shot, but that Reagan was uninjured. He became upset when a report arrived indicating that Reagan had been struck and at one point can be heard shouting at an individual off-screen to "Speak up!" as more information arrived.[10]
Later, Brady, a close friend of Reynolds, was erroneously reported by all three networks as having died from the head wound he suffered in the incident.[11] Upon learning that the information regarding Brady was incorrect, Reynolds suddenly appeared noticeably upset and, looking around at staffers in the background, angrily burst out:
"Let's get it nailed down ... somebody ... let's find out! Let's get it straight so we can report this thing accurately!"
America is back in the space race! Wow! first US manned-flight in 10 years. Hmmm...who was at the helm during most of that time? Oh yeah, it was obummer! Now once again we have a real POTUS and we are back!
Last night was kind of a throwback to the old NASA days to me as I watched the coverage. For the most part I really enjoyed it.
But the discussions about social media posts and "feelings" vs more detailed mission info from the "old days" was boring to this dinosaur (aka Boomer).
Space X rocket boosters returning to Earth to be reused
(From Janauary)
This is always just cool and demonstrates the advancements in several technologies.
Space-X's rocket exploding and the other falling is probably my fault. I was too happy about space stuff. Sorry.
