2027!
@Kansas and USA at home.
<Insert joke about how those two programs will peak that year and win their respective conferences>
3 road non-conference games (Clemson, Baylor, South BAMA) and 1 FCS (SFA). I thought we were done with this crap.
Well my expectations were low when clicking on the thread to see the name of the other party in this Home-and-Home agreement. It clearly wasn't worth mentioning it was with USA in the threat title.
Yeah 2022 not so good.
I have never expected great things of his scheduling.
I am happy with him slapping around Lafayette last week and landing the baseball tournament in Ruston next spring.
Well this is inexplicable. Not sure what LA Tech gets out of this except a home game against a Sunbelt team in 2027. Good lord....even I can schedule better than this.
Yep no need to merge into the Sun Belt when we can schedule games with them anyway.
Yawn...
Now that we have scheduled them in Ruston for 2027, they will start a meteoric rise, take USL’s promised spot in the Big 12, and buy us out. TMac will issue a statement about how he is still glad to be in Ruston, how things are still looking up, unfortunately it’s just the way the P5 do business and then take a sip from his ICEE.
I'm not disappointed that it's a sunbelt team. I don't mind doing some home and home series with some Sun Belt teams, but this one is boring. We just finished the same series with them less than two years ago and there was no excitement. If we wanted to do a home and home series, obviously more known opponents would be better like from a P5 conference, the AAC, or MWC, but why go back to a series we just completed that didn't really do anything. Our attendance wasn't better, there wasn't more interest and I don't think many of our fans made the away trip. Get a Sun Belt school that we haven't played in a while, with more recognition, and/or closer to more alumni.
Appalachian State- great name recommendation, quality opponent on the schedule, new matchup
Troy- Basically just as close as USA, good for travel, new matchup
Arkansas State- Lots of alumni in the state, close by for travel and we haven't had a home and home with them since the 90s.
Texas State- Lots of alumni in the area, close enough for travel, we only played once in San Marcos, bring them to Ruston.
Many of these are very boring choices for fans, but they're at least marginally better than doing another series with USA for the reasons listed.
I was looking forward to a long weekend on the beach when we traveled to USA last time. It was a rain out.
I'd as soon go to Monroe or Lafayette as Troy or Jonesboro. Appy State would be cool. Texas State for another sport, but not football.
I'll say this again. Monroe and Lafayette bring our OWN fans to the games. Even our tech grad/lsu fans come to see us play Monroe.
