Simple... just don’t protest by kneeling at the playing of the National Anthem and with our great flag. Do it at some other time! If on the field
    then this law applies;

“Since 1998, federal law (viz., the United States Code 36 U.S.C. § 301) states that during a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present including those in uniform should stand at attention; Non-military service individuals should face the flag with the right hand over the heart; Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present and not in uniform may render the military salute; military service persons not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note. The law further provides that when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed. Military law requires all vehicles on the installation to stop when the song is played and all individuals outside to stand at attention and face the direction of the music and either salute, in uniform, or place the right hand over the heart, if out of uniform. The law was amended in 2008, and since allows military veterans to salute out of uniform, as well.[68][69]“

Right, but do remember when NFL players weren’t even on the field during the anthem?

I’m 64 years old so what do you think I remember? Keep them in their locker rooms for all I care. But never do it during the presentation.

Most games didn't show the national anthem on TV. The playoffs began showing it at some point because it was a bigger production and part of the "show". I don't remember the Super Bowl ever not showing the national anthem and/or American the Beautiful. Saying this, I was always in favor of not cheapening the National Anthem or America the Beautiful by inserting extra syllables and such.

So that's the best argument you've got. Then fine keep them in the locker room until after its played. Just pass a rule that all coaches and players will take the field following the playing of the anthem. Don't make it into a big deal.

Whether its being done to show disrespect or not that's how its now being perceived by a large population. Just like Trump's rally on Jun-tenth was perceived. So what did he do, he moved it. I'd be much more impressed and think they could make a more valid point to many if they came out, knelled and then when the anthem was started stood to show solidarity with all people.

If you or I ran a 4.4 40 and could pass, catch, or defend, I guess we'd get some input on the manner of protest.

Thank God we live in America where Ray's law that he posted says "should" instead of "must". Vote with your pocketbook on this private organization. Just because everybody on this board or on Fox News is angry about the kneeling doesn't mean that EVERYBODY is. Clearly, the NFL is making a business decision. They know they'll lose some viewers, but if they don't show some solidarity with the players, they stand to lose much more.

Capitalism is great, been a joy to live in a country that allows it. Just hope I get to die in one that still does. My point was to argue that its not been done to disrespect the flag (IN MY OPINION) is not a valid argument any longer. If you perceive otherwise that's fine. I've already walked away from most sports though that was due to a sense of well-being for me before any of this started.

    If I could run a 4.4 20 I'd be happy.

Capitalism isn't going anywhere. The Super left DNC just got rid of a democratic socialist in favor of Sleepy Joe. Politicians on the right and their media arms (Fox News, OAN, and talk radio) have to convince people that socialism is a very near possibility because they've done such a crappy job of extolling the virtues of conservatism. In fact, they've abandoned it. It's all just marketing...and fear is a great motivator.

Sleepy Joe is a placeholder. If elected he won't be able to find his way out of the oval office, he'll be like a cat in a round room trying to find a corner to sh*t in. Therefore we need to see who he selects as VP to determine if the democrats have given up on socialism for this round.

Huh? They had a guy who was a socialist and they said no thanks! Regardless, the worst thing for those who oppose socialism is to lose the house and the senate. MAGA hasn't worked out so well on that.

Conservatism is just progressivism driving the speed limit.

No, they don’t. But, it’s only ten or fifteen years since the NFL players were out of the tunnel before the anthem, sans exceptions you mentioned.

Agree with you about inserting extra syllables. But that said, the National Anthem is practically impossible for a normal person to sing as written; odd key and a tremendous range. The tune is an old British drinking number. And it’s kind of a 20th century construct, the national anthem.

America the Beautiful, though. That’s what it’s all about. Less bombs, more brotherhood.

And completely within most common folk’s vocal register.

It started somewhere around post #7.

Sometimes I feel like we should have separate forum for talking politics. This would allow posters who only want to discuss sports to discuss sports.
