I'd submit there may be some important distinctions to be drawn between S.La's Cajuns, an ethnic minority of European descent, versus those indigenous populations that were systematically expelled, hunted, and stripped of their land and culture as a matter of official policy for roughly half a millennium.

It's somehow just ... not quite the same.

During the French and Indian War (the North American theater of the Seven Years' War), British colonial officers suspected that Acadians were aligned with France, after finding some Acadians fighting alongside French troops at Fort Beauséjour. Though most Acadians remained neutral during the French and Indian War, the British, together with New England legislators and militia, carried out the Great Expulsion (Le Grand Dérangement) of the Acadians during the 1755–1764 period. They forcefully deported approximately 11,500 Acadians from the maritime region. Approximately one-third perished from disease and drowning.^[7] The result was described as an ethnic cleansing of the Acadians from Maritime Canada.^[8][9]
Most Acadians were deported to various British American colonies, where many were put into forced labour or servitude.^[10][11] Some Acadians were deported to England, some to the Caribbean, and some to France. After being expelled to France, many Acadians were eventually recruited by the Spanish government to migrate to present-day Louisiana (known then as Spanish colonial Luisiana), under Spanish rule since the British victory in the Seven Years War. Their descendants gradually developed what became known as Cajun culture.^[12]

Yes, the Acadians were treated poorly. I'd still maintain their case scarcely compares -- in terms of quantity, quality, or duration -- to that of Native populations. There are, after all, still some Acadians and Cajuns that speak their language and practice their culture. You know of any Mohicans?

My point is -- if the Cajun people said "Please stop using a caricature of our history and culture as mascot for your sports team" ... I'd like to think we'd take that request seriously.

So when Native people say (generally) "You've already all but exterminated us. Please allow those few of us who remain the dignity of not being a cartoon character" .... that strikes me as reasonable.

Yes, using any reference to the Native Americans as a sports' mascot, etc is very demeaning. ALL such names, logos, icons, etc should be removed immediately.

Side note: some NAs are not offended by the usage and some may even like it. Too bad..they are not being PC and their opinions don't matter. White liberals know what's best for them.

In the case of the Florida State Seminoles there is quite the differing in opinions. Some Seminole people like the use of their people as a mascot, but too bad, they are nothing but the NA version of Uncle Tom...maybe Uncle Curly, one of Custer's Crow scouts. Traitor! So, we must adhere to the wishes of white libs who are more enlightened. The name "Seminoles" is very demeaning to those people. In fact it is VERY demeaning, insulting and downright RACIST!!! to ever use such references.

Therefore I propose Florida State change its name to "Swamp Rats." Sounds tough, like you want for sports' teams. And, most importantly, it demeans those the name refers to. You see, it is not some aquatic rodent, but rather the nickname of General Andrew Jackson's troops who he led in defeating the Seminoles in that war in Florida. I mean, come on, Andrew Jackson!!! Does it get any more evil than that??? The mascot could wear the buckskins Jackson's troops mostly wore, coonskin cap, an old musket....I know it sounds a lot like WV Mountaineer mascot...well, too bad. In this case it would be Jackson's soldiers...evil, white racists! And since using a group as a sports' mascot is so demeaning, as we are told by white libs, then okay! Demean dem Swamp Rats bastards, eh!
