I love Tech sports too, but this BLM nonsense might be the beginning of the end of my lifelong support. If any of our players take a knee during the national anthem and they are not reprimanded for doing so, I'll be done. No more LTAC donations, and no more game attendance. The loss of my support would cost Tech about $5K per year. How many fans like me have to be alienated before programs like Tech's crater? My guess is not too many. Attendance at most college stadiums was already beginning to wane, so this might well mark the beginning of the end of college sports as we've come to know them. I believe the same is true for the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Politics will be the end of those sports as we've known them too.
Line in the sand = compromising values in the name of social justice
Thanks NCAA. You continue to suck at what you do.
Glad to know there will be at least one in the stands. They will clear if they start putting crap out there. I am guessing you will see pro sports numbers go down this year with all the BLM stuff. TECH would not be wise to make the people with the money angry, and I am guessing they will not let that happen.
I agree. I have no plans to watch any pro sports this year at all, and if college embraces BLM hate organization as well, I can be done with that. It is funny that the people screaming about it, are not the ones with the money or supporting the programs. It will be interesting to watch how they balance it. I am hopeful TECH leadership is smart.
Tech won't have a choice. The players already have the nod from the NCAA Nazis to act a fool.
I wouldn't care if a player or the whole team decided to kneel. I think they're being played by a false narrative but that's their business.
I would care (and do care, since this is happening) that Tech repeats Party Material to try and save itself from the mob. I don't give a shit what the "whole country" thinks if we're doing what's right and not simply what's gonna gain us an extra five minutes before we're the next up against the wall.
I agree. If I want to go to a political rally or advocacy meeting for a social cause, I'll go there. I have, and many would be surprised by just how progressive these might be. When I go to an athletic event, I expect an athletic competition, not a political show.
Mrs. Russdawg might overrule me on giving up basketball, especially wbb. We could keep that and drop an additional paltry $2,500 to Tech athletics and LTAC.
Mrs. Russdawg says, " THEY MAY BE PLAYERS BUT WE'RE PAYERS!!"
Tech and CUSA may have some say. News reports say "as authorized by the school or conference." We'd still have to tolerate visiting schools unis. Tech needs to take a stand. I'll drive to Ruston to watch an intramural team or heck, Haughton Middle School play in a Tech uniform and listen to the hoop troop. But... I hope the admin gets this right.
For many I think the mantra will be, I didn't abandon Tech and/or Tech athletics, Tech abandoned me when (IF!) they aligned with a Marxist, anti-American group like BLM.
IF it happens, I am done. Some things are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more important than sports. Heck! we're doing just fine without it right now.
College football was the one sport I supported that hasn't been involved in all this BLM and Antifa BS!! It is a shame that it has come to this!!! I can see already that I won't be watching ANY professional sports. If anyone is in favor of SOCIALISM....they can always go to Cuba or Venezuela!!
How about we ban players from using any song with the "N" word in it for their highlight videos? Let's go ahead and fix everything while we are at it.
