C-USA announced today that all basketball teams will participate in the tourney. That creates an extra bye (1-2-3 all get 1st round byes)
Based on prior tournaments with all teams, there will still only be 4 teams that now get first and second round byes into the quarterfinals on Thursday (#1 and #2 from each division).Originally Posted by sportdawg
6 teams (the #3-#5 seeds from each division) gets byes into the second round Wednesday which is when they would have first played with just 12 teams.
4 teams (the #6 and #7 seeds from each division) play Tuesday in the first round.
Tuesday
6E vs 7W, 6W vs 7E
Wednesday
3E vs 6W-7E, 4E vs 5W, 4W vs 5E, 3W vs 6E-7W
Thursday
1E vs 4W-5E, 2E vs 3W-6E-7W, 2W vs 3E-6W-7E, 1W vs 4E-5W
This tournament should have been shrunk to no more than 10 teams if not down to just 8 instead of opening it up to all 14 teams. Extra expenses of an extra tournament day plus four more men's and women's teams to pay expenses for. And almost no revenue since only family and friends can attend.

Until the cancellations last week, I was convinced --after Tech's sweep of UAB-- that LA Tech had the inside track to win the CUSA Regular season mens basketball title. It was going to be ours to lose, based upon Tech's current W-L record and who we had left to play, versus the other contenders and who they had left to play. LA Tech was almost guaranteed to win the regular season CUSA title. The percentages were heavily in our favor over the last 6 games. Our players and our fans have now been robbed of that experience. And most don't even realize it. And our athletic administration apparently doesn't care.
And then, the conference contacted their consultants . . . in Birmingham.

If all of the scheduled games are played and Tech sweeps Rice, Tech will get a bye as at least the #2 West seed thanks to UAB losing to ODU last Saturday.
Whoa! Duke is out of the ACC tourney due to the China virus. Will snap a LONG streak of consecutive NCAA appearances. Funny thing about Coach K's team this year, they stunk it up all year, had lost their last 3 regular season games, yet were sitting at 2-0 after back to back easy wins. Now this.
Last tournament missed was 1995. He only coached the first 12 games that year then left for back surgery. Last time a Coach K team missed was in 1983. Now that's winning!
Virginia & Kansas out of tourneys today due to COVID. They have to have 7 straight days of negative to participate in NCAAs.
Tough week for the blue bloods.
