All that said, Anthony won the job. I get needing to get Allen significant reps, but it should only happen in less meaningful situations.
I agree with this^^^. Anthony looked much more poised in the pocket than Allen, but save for the one INT, Allen didn't play bad either. But BOTH QB's need to learn when to tuck the football and run it. Johnny is right that Anthony should have simply run the ball for that final TD. It was wide open. But I also noticed that Allen did the same thing on his last drive, but with worse results. It was 3rd down and 2, and Allen could have EASILY picked up the 1st down to keep the drive alive by simply running. It was wide open. Instead he tried to force a throw and it fell incomplete.

Anthony would have walked in for the GW TD...but then we wouldn't have had the #4 Play of the Day on ESPN Sportscenter.

On one of the CFB blogs I follow some idiot posted that USM got screwed on that reversal, saying there wasn't enough evidence to change the call.

Well he’s an idiot because there was gold behind Hebert’s heel and they spent 5 minutes on the broadcast showing it over and over.

Idiot is the correct word in describing someone who thinks that. I am not sure what took so long to make thatcal.

There's plenty of evidence. Send him this link below. It even magnifies the placement of the foot so even Bozo's like him can keep up.

Camera work left no doubt on this call.

The shot from behind the end zone left no doubt what so ever.

I think it was also clear which coach had more experience, too.

I'm not sure why Holtz didn't let the clock run a little more before calling that last timeout, but on that last drive our team was really calm and efficient. Not scared to run the ball, good plan, even keeled. I have to think one of the differences in that game was that one of those coaches has coached over 250 games and seen it all and the other is still really early in his career.

Walden is a firey guy and that can work - might be just what USM needs this season. I certainly wish the best for Matt Kubik in all games not against us. But at several points in that game I think simply the experience of having been through all those situations (being down 3 scores and working back and the winning drive especially) made a big difference. Not to mention being able to weather all the uncertainty of this weird season. I've been pretty pleased with Holtz's leadership this year.

If the game is on ESPN+, the call may not have been over turned -

We were helped in the fact that it was on ESPN2 and had better technical support and more cameras...

And the fact that person from Southern Miss - who was too close to the field - didn't block the camera angle. The cameraman was just able to get a clear shot.

Just checked the blog, the former "idiot" posted again he was mistaken and it was clearly a catch. He got some grief from other posters prior to his reversal of opinion.

Sure he did (get some grief.) After watching that video, he would have to be blind and stupid to not see that it was a catch.

I noticed on the replay today that the back judge never looked at the feet or the end zone line. He looked at Hebert's body (which most of us did) and assumed he went out. His job is to look at the feet. Typical horrible CUSA ref.

Can we designate Luke Anthony as QB1 yet? I know Aaron Allen has been putting in work, but I believe Luke has more upside. Now, if there is a good way to keep both of them "game ready", it would be a good idea to do so as crazy as 2020 (the year of "COVID-19") has been and likely will continue to be.

Totally agree! It is taking a series or two each time for the QB to get acclimated to the game. Luke is our starter, but Allen should be ready to sub in quickly, not split duties evenly. When Anthony and the offense are in sinc with each other, don't sub.
