As for Holtz, we hear his supporters say he has had offers from other schools, but we've never heard the name(s) of any of those schools. His name being mentioned does not mean he has had offers, much less turned any offers down. He developed his coaching style before he arrived at USF. Nothing has changed and the "step up" schools recognize that. He was a good deal for us financially when we hired him. He has certainly been consistent here at Tech, but he's left a lot of wins on the table. The fact that beating USM was what many here and our Coach call Tech's greatest win during his coaching career is very sad.
As far as Tommy using Tech as a stepping stone, did he really get a better position? Could he not have gotten that job straight from McNeese? Getting a Power 5 AD job, or a high profile number 2 job, that would be a better job. Not sure that is the case here.

As far as Skip is concerned, he was in a BCS conference before he came here. When he got fired he had more losing seasons at USF then the program had in their entire history before hiring him. We gave Skip a lifeline. He and his dad felt he would never be a head coach at the highest level again. FCS head coach or coordinator was the best he was looking at.

He has never nor should he ever be a candidate for a Power 5 head coaching job. Those guys look for coaches on the rise, Skip is a decliner, he is 56 years-old and FAILED MISERABLY at that level in a weaker power conference at a FLORIDA school. That what makes me wonder why we keep giving him raises and extentions?!

Our weak AD is the one who gave him the favorable contracts and raises for doing what he was paid to do on the previous contracts. He was not going anywhere

I definitely agree and will not argue with that. AND again will reiterate that Skippy has not impressed me...But Skip is still here and gives the impression he's not chasing the next J-O-B!

With all of that said...Is Skip the best HC for the long term? Or do we as an institution have to settle with Skip because no one with the talent to be a successful HC wants to commit to Tech or prep themselves for the next J-O-B?

Long term as in 5 more years? Yes if that includes the same weak skeds we've been playing year after year. It appears our leadership has settled for the C-USA/Sunbelt G5 model instead of working to get in the mix with the AAC. We still have a large group of fans who think we have a shot at being what we were in WBB 30 years ago. That says a lot about what our leadership is working with.
