Don't know how many of you know this, but new Baylor Head Coach Dave Aranda was the Utah State DC back in 2012 when USU came to Ruston and beat our famed 2012 team in OT, 48-41. To refresh your memory, our Dawgs were down by 24 points late in the 3rd quarter before they finally decided to play football and stormed back to tie the game at the end of regulation. The Dawgs, led by QB Colby Cameron and RB Kenneth Dixon, were nationally ranked in the Top 25 at the time, but lost this game in OT.

Aranda was the Defensive Coordinator for one year for the Utah State Aggies under Gary Andersen. That same year he was a nominee for the Broyles Award as the Aggies defense finished in the top 15 of all FBS schools in all four major defensive categories; seventh in scoring defense (15.4 points per game), 13th in rushing defense (113.8 yards per game), eighth in pass-efficiency defense (14 interceptions, 12 touchdowns, 54.1% completion rate, 5.7 yards per attempt) and 14th in total defense (322.1 ypg).^[

Baylor fans have become very uppity the last few years. I know as my oldest son and his friends are some of them. Their ill gotten games haven’t really pierced their balloon since there have been few ramifications by the NCAA.

I hope we kick their arse back into the nineties.

Since I got my grad degree at Baylor, I follow both teams. I will be wearing blue on Saturday, of course. I can't say that I like our chances. I've heard the o-line (BU's achilles heal last year) is looking way better. (and most of them are returners). If the line can give Brewer time, that offense is going to be scary good. Our best chance might be if our new QB is good enough to put some points on Baylor's rebuilt defense.

And to continue showing you how incestuous this FBS coaching fraternity is, former Southern Miss coach (2008-2011) and North Carolina coach (2012-2018) Larry Fedora, is Baylor's Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach. Fedora was USM's head coach when LA Tech lost to USM 19-17 in Hattiesburg in the first game of the season in 2011. Tech was leading 17-16, when the USM kicker drilled a 48-yd FG thru the uprights on the last play of the game, in a very heavy rain storm.

Looking forward to watching Tech play on regular TV, not ESPN2+X..., regular TV I can and will pick up with an antenna. Has that ever happened before?
