Tech AD Search | TMac to Vandy

He might be good at improving the game day experiences, but he has no experience in selecting coaches. Do you think we might be better off selecting someone with a more broad experience? I have never met him, but am sure he is a nice guy and would be very loyal to Tech and Ruston. I am game if he is the choice, although I would have preferred a national search with a experienced firm. But we are LA Tech, so that is not going to happen. BTW his name is spelled Martie, kind of a weird spelling.

For the Tommy McClelland hire we used Eastman & Beaudine, Inc (pretty well-known sports recruiter - recently worked with Rutger/FSU/Baylor FB coaches searches) according to this article.

Well that didn't work out. Wasn't much of a search to hire a guy just down the road. I guess at the time our last three AD's were a political appointment and two internal promotions. One of those was pretty successful. Maybe we will hire a fim again this time. I hope so with better results. If we used them for football coaches we could have just looked to see what successful coaches who have sons who were also coaches.

I think we hired Tommy to get the DAC project done (and a few other facilities upgrades) seeing he oversaw the endzone facility project for McNeese. Tommy stayed too long for my liking. We hired a guy to finish tasks not draw out a 20 year vision of Tech athletics. We probably went to the search firm and told them our immediate needs and the price we will pay to have someone finish the job. They gave us a few names. He wasn't here to increase attendance, build the fanbase, and it showed.

For the next guy, I would like to see facility upgrades but importantly have a plan for us to be financially stable. We need someone with creativity and can think outside of the old Ruston mindset of this is how it has always been done.

That's all he did...chase money and he left a TON of money on the table due to his arrogance.

Tommy exactly lived up to the expectations given to me by several McNeese folks.

But, some good things did happen under his watch, regardless. Wish him well.
