And I was just about to call the ticket office and make travel arrangements! Another 2020 disappointment.
IMO, this is actually a big advantage for us. Road games are tough at a place like BYU, where they can pack in 65K fans for a game. That kind of environment can be very intimidating to young football players. But it won't be a problem now. Now we just need to concern ourselves with the high elevation, which was a persistent problem for us when we played road games in the WAC.
This BYU game will be a step into the great unknown for our 2020 defense. We should somewhat find out if we can defend a good passing team this weekend with HBU. We already know we had an average start at best against USM.
BYU ran all over Navy. Their passing game was sufficient too. They did good defensively against the one-dimensional Navy offense too. Curious to find out how the BYU/Troy game plays out this weekend. If Troy can score a bit on BYU then we can too even more.
Looking forward to going up against a ranked BYU and winning. Let’s see if our defense will be legit.
I really don't think we have seen our defense so far, with 6 starters (backfield I think?) on defense out in the USM game. Honestly with the D especially being a lot of inexperienced Freshman and Sophomores, holding a reenergized and resurgent USM to only 30 points was pretty solid. Its very easily the kind of game we lost in the past.
Can't the team carry oxygen and have it on the field?
I still don't know how we won it? USM QB Jack Abraham was still 24 of 32 for 264 yds, 3TD's and 1 INT. That's a 75% completion percentage!! Tim Jones caught 8 passes for 160 yds by himself! ....and he left the game early.
I only bring this up to say, our defense --especially our PASS defense-- still needs a whole lot of work. Tech's new DB's better grow up fast back there. There's no more Amik or Sneed back there to cover up their mistakes.
