IMO, this game will be an excellent measuring stick for LA Tech football in 2020. BYU is showing signs of being a very good, and mature, football team this season. BYU is probably the best the G5 has to offer for 2020.

As you sit in your recliner to watch this game Friday night, please remember this: On average, BYU players are 2 years older and more mature than their opponents due to a special NCAA exemption that postpones the NCAA's 5-yr eligibility clock to allow for 2 years of missionary service during their college years. For example, a BYU player can come in and red shirt his freshman year, leave on a 2-year mission after that, and come back and play as a 21-yr old freshman the next year. Critics will argue that this "mission exemption" hurts BYU football as much as it helps them by keeping players away from the game for 2 years. Regardless, the fact remains that LA Tech's 18-yr old linebacker Tyler Grubbs, will undoubtedly face off against some 24 & 25 yr old athletes from BYU.

Well that happens when you are controlled all game on the line of scrimmage going both ways. We were out gained by two hundred yards and that includes the big play to Smoke and the 75 yard drive in crunch time. Lots to get right by the next game against a perhaps confident UTEP team. Although they are 3-1, they have played a garbage schedule.

Close the lines are anywhere fron Tech -14 to -16.5.

I know you predicted that out of anger and frustration. UTEP's schedule has sucked, even worse than ours. And they were also blown away by the only decent team they played.

I think some of BYU’s age and maturity —particularly in the DL— was on vivid display last Friday night. Our OL got manhandled all night by three down linemen in the BYU DL. It literally looked like grown men against boys. Some os those BYU defensive linemen could start for the Kansas City Chiefs.

.....and one more thing: I’ll be cheering hard for the first G5 school that can knock the smirk off the face of BYU QB Wilson. That guy looks like the kid you love to hate. And I got very tired of seeing his grinning face on the sideline all night.

..... I lied. I do have ONE more thing: Someone needs to light a fire under Justin Henderson’s azzz. He ran like a girl (with apologies to real women who I know can run harder than what Henderson was doing) all night until late in the 2nd half, when I think Holtz finally said something to him.

Henderson has not been running hard this season. He showed up out of shape and he ran like he was scared against BYU.

    That’s it. Rant over.

Henderson didn't look good Friday night. He also lost a starting tackle the week of the game. Our OL got whipped the whole game by THREE down linemen. Yes, our skill players looked off, but it's tough for them to look on when our OL plays as poorly as they did. The good news is, that's probably the best DL we'll face this year.

Apparently we were still down 6 OL for Covid, so that certainly didn’t help.
