What's Your Suggestions for LA Tech Offense?

Here's mine, and I want to know what you think.

It's a shame that our "2nd string" tackles are so bad that they literally act like matadors to opposing defenses. They should be ashamed of themselves as football players.

With that said, I believe Skip Holtz needs to run a completely different offensive formation this week. What we are doing is NOT working. Why keep running the same offensive sets when it's so easy for the opposing defense to disrupt everything?

For example, instead of running a 4 WR set with 1 RB --which is our primary offensive set-- CHANGE THINGS! Bring in a TE, and/or a second RB --or a slotback-- to help with pass protection and run support up front. It will provide better blocking and also give us more creative options with RB & TE screens, shovel passes, etc.... It should also end much of the double-teaming we see on our WR's, as the DB's move closer to the line of scrimmage. .

Sometimes we run a "straight T" formation, and it is very successful. But we didn't see THAT last night at all.

    How about a little coaching?

What is certain, is the fact that LA Tech can't keep doing the same thing and expect to get a different result. It's time to CHANGE what we are doing offensively at LA Tech.

It's time for Tech fans to stop blaming all our shortcomings on the "two missing tackles". Instead, we should act like a big boy team and ADJUST! That's why we pay the coaches.

How about rolling out the QB instead of always staying in the pocket and getting creamed?

Anthony, in particular, and Allen too, haven't shown much ability throwing on the roll out. Anthony is a classic pocket-passer.

Unfortunately, the root cause of our offensive problems (which I find very "offensive") is Holtz. His IQ is the same as most people's shoe size. He has no imagination, no clue how to adapt, adjust to changing circumstances. I have to believe the players are smart enough to handle changes, especially if they have a week of practice, and even on the fly on the sideline. It's frickin' football, a game! it's not rocket science or brain surgery. Heck, we handled tactical changes in junior high, and especially later in high school. Sometimes we brought suggestions to our coaches based on what was happening on the field.

Holtz is a "one-size-fits-all" by Gawd, this is the way we've always done it, kind of guy. We are stuck in mediocrity.

Same as always. Adjust to the defense instead of staying with the Holtz game script. We've known for years that he makes all the decisions, not his OC.

I think a good OC would NOT have let things get out of hand offensively the way they did last night. A good OC would have adjusted just as you suggested.

Tell Henderson to hit the holes and not stop.....ever. Once he stops he is done.

Tell the O-Line to go to practice, go to room and go to class (take online if possible). Stay away from all people, especially those who may have Covid-19.

Turn the play calling over to our OC. Recruit OL bc our backups should remain backups.

Im glad the backups got a game in before next week, at least they have something to improve on I guess.

If we had 6 backups out last week, how many did we have back this week? They’d have been out of practice for a while right?

Re: What's Your Suggestions for LA Tech Offense?

There are ways to counter the situation where we can not block the tackle. Run a two back pro set and run a wide trap, where the center or opposite guard trap block the tackle and the lead back goes thru the hole and gets the linebacker.
Any of us could go on and on, on how to take advantage of an unblocked tackle. These plays have been in existence forever.
These plays will automatically slow down the D Tackles run on pass plays, they would have to look for F-blocks and trap blocks before rushing the QB.
Double team the D tackles on pass plays.
Too many things could have been done that weren't.
block with a slot receiver on the D tackles back side.
    Influence block.
    Too many ideas.

Never thought I’d say it...more bubble screens. I’d also call more quick slants from 2-back sets. Until our starting tackles are back, Tucker is our #1, Gardener is #2 and Henderson is #3.

I agree with your RB ranking...for now. We did try to throw some slants and their DL were knocking the passes down. Of course, our DL returned the favor a few times.

Re: What's Your Suggestions for LA Tech Offense?

Basically everything we run from shotgun, run from pistol. Use tons of motion but don’t get too cute. We have to get Hardy 1 on 1 and take advantage of that. It’s crazy how ineffective he has been since the 2018 season. At times in the LSU game in 2018, he looked like the best player on the field...

I wouldn’t mind henderson in the backfield in a single back under center Ace formation. We can’t just spread it out 4 wide and let Anthony roll out every play. It stretches things out too wide and creates bad passing angles. It takes away our over the middle passing game. Can we use a TE here and there? Kam McKnight is the only person recently that even resembles a TE... and we still didn’t use him to his potential.
