This game is especially interesting maybe even more so than the games of recent years because of how completely inept Tech’s offense is, how entirely predictable we are and how vulnerable Holtz’s coaching is right now. I don’t know that the game’s outcome is going to be the most interesting thing, but rather how it gets there.
No doubt Holtz knows how weak his overall team is, but even more he has to be feeling how upset his dwindling fan base is with ‘his’ recent really bad showings. It’s not only the team that isn’t performing very well, it’s Holtz himself whose doing poorly.
There’s all of that plus now he has a new boss who he knows has to be paying particular attention to how the reminder of the season goes. He can’t afford a complete collapse. Next add in that UAB just got beat at home by ULL. That hurt and they’re undoubtedly really pissed about it.
I figure UAB is thinking this is their best chance to decapitate Tech for at least a few years and they’re going to go far it from the opening play. Meanwhile Holtz, by his do over and over and over again tendencies regardless of repeated failures is probably spending every preparation moment trying to figure out how to slow this game down and play it as if the field is a tar pit 10 tens long by 53 yards wide.
Holtz probably knows that every facet of the game is against him, at least he better know because it is. So, he’s probably thinking to bog the whole thing down into a mind numbing doldrum. Kind of like the rope-a-dope. It’s quite possible that unless the defense scores, Tech could get shut out in this one.
It'll be UAB 17 Tech 7 or maybe 10 at the half, and we'll get blitzed in the 2nd half 21-0. Final UAB 38 Tech 10.
21-7 at half. Skip carefully evaluates our first half success and benches everyone responsible. 0-21 second half. We lose 21-28 and the sunshine pumpers celebrate a "close loss."
Interesting score. I'm giving 2 scenarios for this game, depending on which Tech shows up:
If LA Tech has a GOOD game - UAB 31, LA Tech 17
If LA Tech has a BAD game - UAB 44, LA Tech 10
Either way, it's a beat down of biblical proportions. And if Holtz & Anthony run that stupid "sideline bubble screen" pass 10 more times in this game, we'll be lucky if a Tech WR doesn't end up injured.
Of course, I hope I'm wrong. Nothing would please me more than to get a surprise win over UAB, a team I personally can't stand. But truthfully, it's been so long since our offense has played well against an FBS opponent that I'm concerned that we may not score at all. Combine this with our demented coach's stupid play calling and clock mismanagement, and it's hard to be hopeful.
We're just lucky we're not playing ULL this year.
Let me update your Good game
UAB 31
LA Tech 16
I see us adding an additional 2 FGs than scoring another TD.
What I am seeing, and it was alluded here about UAB, is that the other team starts from kickoff then they play an entire 4 quarters. I can't remember when a La Tech football team did that outside of any bowl appearance. Maybe we should just tell the team this is the 'Let's Save our Season Bowl' or some such nonsense.
In the video it’s disappointing, but not necessarily surprising that Holtz didn’t identify ‘coaching’ and in particular his mistakes as a significant part of why we are where we are and that’s why we’ve been getting worse in recent weeks. It’s next to impossible to correct a problem when you can’t admit it.
