It's about time. Muschamp is a defensive guy, and has very little offensive creativity. His faults very much remind me of Skip Holtz.

Muschamp has a 56-51 HC record after 4 years as Florida's head coach and after almost another 5 years at South Carolina. At one time, Muschamp was the hottest commodity in the business. You may remember that way back in 2008 or '09 Texas promised Muschamp Mack Brown' head coaching job, but only after Brown chose to retire. UT even overpaid Muschamp --900K a year-- just to be the Texas DC, while he waited for Brown to retire. Problem was, Brown never chose to retire, and Muschamp finally moved on and accepted the Florida HC job.

Wow $15 million buyout if he was fired at the end of the season according to ESPN.

Top targets, again according to ESPN:

    Hugh Freeze, Liberty
    Billy Napier, ULL
    Jamey Chadwell, Coastal
    Shane Beamer, Oklahoma AHC-Offense
    Tony Elliott, Clemson OC

No mention of Skip Holtz, I would guess Lou couldn't get his name on this list since Skip was not demoted and not retained at South Carolina.

Can anyone win at SC? Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, even Paul Dietzel couldn't win there. Of those Spurrier enjoyed the most success...had some 11-win seasons and bowl wins...but was never a serious threat to crash the party of the "elites," and ultimately, that is the measure of SEC programs.

Tough to win there while Clemson is so dominant...same with Georgia. I assume SC recruits GA pretty heavily.

Spurrier won just enough to put delusions into the minds of the fanbase. That's a problem that may take decades to overcome, and there is no Spurrier on their short list.

Lane Kiffin would have been a great hire for South Carolina. But they waited a half year too late.

I think Freeze is still a little toxic for an SEC program. And while Chadwell would probably be the best choice, they (foolishly) may feel like he hasn't done enough for a "big-time" job. Same maybe for Napier, although at least he has a slightly longer resume and good P5 assistant history.

I hope Beamer doesn't take a HC job for a few years because he meets our biggest criteria, so we need him available in case Skip gets hired away.

Freeze - You may be correct he went to Liberty with the idea of washing the stink off. That maybe became a little harder with the Falwell Jr, mess. Freeze may be a hypocrite, but he wins.
Chadwell - Again you might be right, but he has paid his dues in D2 and FCS before this great season at Coastal.
Napier - I also feel Napier is ready for a P5 job. For his sakes it is best to strike while the iron is hot.
    Beamer - That's funny.

I think they hope to hire Freeze, reputation be darned. He might not be interested though, might not want another one of the hardest jobs in the SEC. He makes $2 Million at Liberty and is now in line for a raise. Falwell Jr. stepping down hurts as he was determined to make Liberty a big time football school.

Freeze is twice the coach Kiffin is. Kiffin is all hype IMO. He'll wear his welcome out at Ole Miss...just like he has everywhere he's ever been.

Now you're just being silly. He never wore his welcome out at FAU.

Anybody that knows anything about college football knows that Lane Kiffin can coach & recruit. Even though I'm no fan of his, Kiffin took over a moribund Florida Atlantic program that was coming off three straight 3-9 seasons in 2014, 2015 & 2016 --just before Kiffin arrived-- and he won two CUSA Conference Football Championships in the next 3 years. He won 11 games twice, in 2017 and 2019. I guess I could remind you that LA Tech has been competing in FBS football for 31 years and never won 11 games in a single season. NEVER! That's how hard it is to win 11 games at this level.

in case Skip decides he'd rather play 18 at Squire Creek on fall weekday afternoons instead of spending it in the office and on the practice field.

Matt Patricia out in Detriot. Skip's agent has been in contact with the Ford family. Skip's camp guaranteed the Ford family he could get the Lions in a "participation trophy bowl game" every year. He believes he can take Matthew Stafford to the next level as an NFL QB. Saying Stafford could be a rockstar. Detroit or bust!!!

Derek Mason is out at Vandy. Interim is some guy named Todd Fitch.

Just a thought, but maybe Tommy will recommend Skip to his new boss. It's way to make a great first impression.
