    3 Opt Out

Donavaughn Campbell, Adrian Hardy and Justin Henderson have all opted out of what’s left (if anything) of our season to start preparing for the 2021 NFL draft. This kind of behavior really yanks my chain. The NCAA should allow a provision for collecting scholarship money extended to players who opt out specifically for the draft, at least for the current quarter or the quarter just completed (if they opt out during quarter break). Any player that opts out should certainly not continue to get a free ride. If they are a true “playa” they should have full confidence in their ability to pay this out of their signing bonus and take out a student loan in the interim if they want to stay enrolled and have access to our coaches, training facilities and other accoutrements that they apparently take for granted. Selfish behavior has been rewarded far too long by our society as evidenced in many aspects of the 2020 newsfeed. Just my $0.02.

I agree, send them a bill...

as for Justin Henderson, he never opted in this season. Good riddance. And, good luck in the draft there, Justy-baby! Hardy was having a good year...he and Hebert rose to the top in the WR corps.

At this point, just cancel the season. Be done with it. I have "opted" out and don't care if Tech plays another game this year. If they do...good luck to the Dawgs...they'll need it.

So true! I started to mention this when I started the thread but thought I would leave an opening for others to vent as well.

Definitely! IF we play again he will be sorely missed.

....Just to add some weight to your comment about Henderson never opting in, below are Henderson's stats for the lst 3 seasons, including the 2020 season stats thru 7 games:

    https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb...nderson-2.html

Statistically, it was just an awful season for Henderson. And we certainly never got the "senior leadership" from him that we expected before the 2020 season started. What we got instead was a physically "out of shape" RB that was too slow for college football. I honestly don't know why anybody would draft this guy. He was a non-entity for us in 2020.

This is much better for the athletic department when compared to players enrolling in the winter quarter and quiting school the Monday after the last game.

Just to be fair, he had a horrible OL that cant block for anyone. Tuckers numbers werent that great either. Our QB also had negative rushing yards in many games.

Remember how BYU kicked our ass and Marshall too.

Did they really opt out or is there more to the story (puff out, fail out...)?

All of that is true. But I didn't see Henderson break a tackle all season. Of course, when you show up for the season overweight and slow, it's hard to break tackles. Henderson was never ready to play in 2020, and he couldn't wait for it to be over.

    Re: 3 Opt Out

Players could "opt out" before the season started or before they played in a game, and under this year's circumstances I understand.

Players "quit" during the season all the time and it should be called exactly what it is for anyone who already played in a game unless there are medical or other extenuating circumstances. Call them "retired".

Time to get rid of the participation trophy terminology.

The story is in Sunday’s Ruston Daily Leader. The story didn’t mention any extenuating circumstances regarding their quitting. The story DID have touchy feely quotes from Hardy and Henderson thanking Tech for the opportunity, blah blah blah. Doesn’t sound like they did anything wrong except for wussing out on their teammates, coaches and school.

Please name the players that Skip has recruited that were strong leaders. I can’t think of any...Scott is the only one that comes to mind and Skip never utilized his full potential.

Boston Scott was a walk-on so I don't know if Skip should get credit for recruiting him.

Skip didn’t want to waste a scholarship on an undersized kid. So he earned his way. Skip likes to save the scholarships for dope smokers and quitters
