These monopoly social media giants are more obligated to provide services than a single eating establishment, one of many, many, such places. Let's do away with ALL regulations on private businesses. They shouldn't have to serve anyone and it's none of your business who they choose to accommodate and those they don't. Of course, as you've already guessed, that would include race, gender, sexual preference, age, family status, religion, non-religion (no effing atheists allowed!), and etc... and, why not! What's good for a few media giants is good for everyone else. Right?
They aren’t obligated to provide services. Read your user agreement and the terms of use. If you violate them, you can be kicked.

So you agree private businesses can "kick" people out for whatever reasons they deem, since they aren't obligated to provide services. Fine.

That was one simple cake at one bakery. It wasn’t a worldwide company deciding what billions of people they serve (cake) and don’t serve (cake) for one reason or another to; and out side of the US they aren’t bound by our stupid arse liberal laws. And you and others on here were pissed they could refuse the gay couple.

Now, user agreements aside, there is the whole Sherman Antitrust Act, Clayton Act, and etc... and it certainly appears that Big Tech is restricting free and fair trade in the world of cyber business. Parler is a competitor and now has had their right of trade restricted, or really, denied. Yeah, I know, they are doing the Left's bidding so it's okay. Doesn't change the fact it violates any fair trade concept you can think of.

I bet John D. Rockefeller is rolling over in his grave!

Parler is a competitor of FB. Not Apple. Not Amazon. FB didn’t do anything to Parler.

    They're all in cahoots.

Did (does) Parler have a contract with Apple/Amazon? I would think so, and this is a violation of a contract. There is also such a thing as an "implied contract," so even that is enough to bring civil action against Apple/Amazon.

BTW, John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil had no competitors either, and the Supreme Court ruling of 1911 pointed to that as the problem. Looks like FB, Apple, Amazon need to be broken up too...just like Standard Oil was.

Yes, they had a contract and Apple and Amazon claim they violated the terms of service.

The government already approved FB merger with Instagram so it is hard to reverse that.

Standard Oil could be broken up. Apple and Google don’t split the same way. Maybe you could carve AWS out of Amazon’s marketplace. Size alone is not a problem. It is not illegal to be a monopoly.

    Some interesting relevant history.

I do think social media is harmful. And I think they're being attacked from left and right which almost has to result in some scale-back.

But I think both left and right sometimes use seriously poorly reasoned arguments in their opposition.

Uh. Nothing hypocritical here. Twitter was objecting to the Ugandan government ordering companies to shut down the internet, including social media.

You are the one advocating the government taking away Twitter/Apple/Amazon/Google/FB’s first Amendment right to speak their mind.

These companies have a contract with their users that their user’s violated by inciting and planning insurrections on their platforms.

You are way on the wrong side of the constitution and conservatism on this issue.

    Re: Censorship and Monopolies

Not true. The majority don’t want impeachment nor Big Tech going full-bore to censorship.

The commie Dems have completely lost their minds.

    12 Jan 2021

Poll: 60% of Battleground Voters Consider Impeachment Attempt a ‘Waste of Time’

A majority of battleground voters want Congress to move on from impeaching President Donald Trump, considering their effort both politically motivated and a waste of time and money, according to a January 12 memo from the pollster John McLaughlin of McLaughlin & Associates.

The survey examined 800 battleground voters in key states — Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin — from January 10-11 and found the majority oppose both another impeachment attempt and Big Tech dramatically increasing censorship.
