I'm still a bit confused on why Grubbs was not more highly recruited. LA Tech and Southern Miss are definitely the best offers he received. Yet he played high school football at a level/league that is very competitive with many high profile players. Maybe there was drastic improvement his senior season bringing his value as a recruit a little too late for many other programs. He has good LB size. He is likely going to be able to improve on speed and agility with college-level strength and conditioning as many players do. He seems to have a good balance between playing both smart and instinctively. It is not like he is a recruit like Amik Robertson who was arguably a P5 talent in a G5 body.
As several others have already pointed out in other threads, it may be dumb luck and COVID that forced the coaches to put Tyler on the field as a true freshman. If it were any other season then we probably would not be talking about him at all, yet. Regardless I am glad he saw the field early. Same goes for Cedric Woods getting a lot of playing time too as a true freshman.
