These are great but it twists the knife.
Actually, I don't agree with the rankings. ODU in 1980 was not as good as us the next year. Plus, I would have even ranked our 3 in a different order. We had 2 #1 teams (one on the floor and one on the bench) in 1981 and 1982. I don't think the 88 team was better. They were awesome, but not better than our back to back NC years. Just my opinion and everyone has one.
The '81-82 team was one of the most dominant in women's basketball history. Sure, they couldn't win a "time machine" game against 2016 UConn or Griner's BU team, but they dominated very good competition -- playing most of the top teams in the country more than once each year. Those teams are being shortchanged. The '88 team may be a bit high.
Actually, now that I look at the whole list, it just doesn't make much sense at all. Some old teams that weren't close to the 81 Techsters are rated very high. Some teams like 95 UConn are rated well above their quality (a team that mostly dominated bad competition). Actually, I still think that if Leon hadn't tried to stall at the end of that UVa game in '95, we'd have sent UConn home.
IMO, the Lady Techsters are rated far too low in this piece. In addition to winning back to back NC's, both the 1981 and 1982 team --with Pam Kelly and Debra Rodman down low-- were the biggest, baddest, toughest, meanest, azz teams to ever play women's basketball. These two teams had two Wade Trophy winners in Kelly --who won it in '82-- and Janice Lawrence, who would win the same award as a senior in 1984. Kelly averaged 19.5 pts and 10 rebounds per game for her entire 4-yr Tech career. She also averaged a 62.3% FG percentage for here entire career too. That's just insane!
Both the 1981 and 1982 teams belong in the Top Ten. These players were very athletic and they were the finest athletes of their day.
