    Re: National Rankings

The play this weekend was discouraging to say the least. Baseball is a completely different sport, though. It is rare than even a top team will win all games that they should. Saying that, we better come out with a sweep this weekend or our ranking is gone and our top spot in CUSA is gone, as well. Hoping this was just a bad weekend. The way we played, we were lucky to split.

Stay with the Dawgs BB&B...baseball is different, accept it or not. Getting a split on an off-weekend may be the wake up the team needs. In the past, this team would have lost 3 or all 4 on an off-weekend.

3 out of 4 this weekend and back in business. We do need a surprise sweep at some point this year and the final 2 game set at the end of season, at home, to Old Dom is looming large if we just take 3 out of 4 each weekend...

Wrong. If you'd have been paying attention this past weekend, you'd have seen --like everyone else did-- an extremely poor effort in back to back games by the Dawgs against a far inferior opponent. AT HOME!!

As for the other Tech losses this season you mentioned, one could easily argue that all but one were against really good teams; LSU, ULL (2), Arkansas (2), and USM (3), and half were on the road. UAB was a bad loss. But we did NOT suffer back to back losses to UAB either, we still managed to win 3 of 4.

This was definitely the low point of the season. Another weekend at home like this and we'll definitely be wasting our time.

Nobody was arguing that it was not the low point of the season. That began in the top of the 7th game 2 Saturday. Pitching was our big problem this weekend, just like it was at lsu, one loss in Lafayette, 1 loss against Arkansas, and 1 loss against USM. We only have 1 more home conference home series, so the team will have to show what it can do on the road over the next two weekends and in BR.

Then, what are you arguing? Pitching is EVERYBODY's problem. Welcome to college baseball. But in our case, it was much more problematic against an awful 6-22 team than it should have been.

You asked, "what did you see when we lost the other 9 games?" The answer is, most of those losses were against really good teams, and about half were on the road. Also, 5 of those losses were very early in the season. But, I still saw quality play and effort in those losses, against much better teams. But this past weekend, it honestly felt like the wheels were coming off in these back to back losses to a terrible Marshall team. Burroughs needs to get his act together.

Pitching is not USMs problem. They have the best pitching in CUSA. Know who their pitching coach is? Know how many pitchers are on our roster who have not contributed this year. Pitching is our problem and it has shown up in almost every loss.

    This week...

    #13 Oregon went 3-2
    #12 Ole Miss went 3-0 sweeping #11 S. Carolina who went 1-3
    #10 Notre Dame went 4-0
    #9 East Carolina went 2-2

Based on what happened to the teams ranked ahead of Tech, I see a chance for the Dawgs to move up to maybe #12.

That's funny. LA Tech beat USM head-to-head in 7 out of 11 games. And yet, there's USM right on our heels at #23. I wonder how many times we would have to beat USM to put a little distance between us?
