I will miss his voice and "you gotta love it". Forty-eight years, wow-he has been a huge part of TECH sports for sure. I wish him well in his retirement.
Don't blame him a bit, but I'll miss listening to him for football.
I will miss him too, but all of the signs have been there this past football and basketball season.
Just had a feeling this was a done deal when he didn't go to Frisco for the C-USA Tournament.
Wouldn't surprise me if he fills in on either football or basketball when there are conflicts in November and December.
I hate to lose him for any sport, but if he needs to slow down, then I love him continuing with baseball. I am sure we will still hear from him on coaches shows and other times as well. A national treasure that man is.
Dave will be missed. He's a "Hall of Famer" by any measure.
So, how does the school (or athletic department?) go about choosing a replacement for football and basketball? Who's in charge of this?
I will probably never listen to a LaTech football game on the radio again....and I pity the bastard that has to follow in his footsteps. That poor guy will never be able to replace Nitz.
We have no idea how lucky we have been to have Nitz as our PBP guy for so many years. He was the best college football and baseball PBP guy for decades. I am sure he was at the top of the pile for basketball as well.
Simply the best...period. Y'all know me, I don't pull punches on anything or anyone. If I thought Nitz sucks or was over-rated I would happily post that. But! the truth is he is great...no, better than that, mega-great at what he does. He has already been inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and I did enjoy visiting with him then, and with Matt Dunigan too. But, he's also deserving of the Sports Broadcasters' Hall of Fame, if he is not already in it.
We have been truly blessed for all these years...spoiled really. Louisiana Tech athletics has led the nation in "voices of universities." We are #1! and
Ya gotta luv it!
He has been the voice of Louisiana Tech my entire life and the Captains for the first 20 years of my life. A legend in multiple sports and a better person to represent Tech we could never ask for.
All good things must come to an end -
But I’m glad he is cutting back while he still appears to have good health
He will be sorely missed because he is Tech Athletics to most all of us
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
The baseball team owes Nitz a chance to broadcast Tech playing in the CWS in Omaha. Yes, OWES it to him! Therefore, I call on the Diamond Dawgs to reach the CWS before Nitz completely retires. No excuses...failure is not an option...on to Omaha, for the ole Nitzer!
I really thought he was going to scale back a few years ago, when he was driving back from the minor league team he was calling and had that accident. He was burning the candle at both ends back, even cutting back to working for just Tech he was still putting in the work.
"Win one for the Gipper!" It's known as dedicating an effort in honor of someone. It energizes a team to accomplish a goal or goals.
I doubt I'm the only one who thinks Nitz has earned the right, the honor, the pleasure of calling Tech baseball games in Omaha. Well, except obviously you...
