Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests.

When your family has a Russian missile strike your house, don't call us. We'll just tell you we don't aid victims of aggression.

Except this does not address the issue between Ukraine and Russia. It is not about liking or disliking Ukraine and Russia in comparison to each other. During a peaceful time most people, myself included, view Ukraine and Russia pretty much equally. Nope. This is all about Putin's naked aggression toward Ukraine. Period. Thus, Washington's words of wisdom simply do not apply in this case.

Which brings up this point for all you Putin-loving/Ukrainian-hating posters here...why? Why are you in Putin's camp? Do you also support past aggressors like Hitler? If you dopes were around in 1939 would you be railing against the US getting involved in trying to stop Hitler? There were Americans who did. A sizeable percentage of Americans did not want the US to get involved in a "European conflict." They were part of the strong isolationist movement. FDR ignored their protests and began the lend-lease program supplying both Britian and the Soviet Union. Yep! Of course, the US did not officially join the war until December 7, 1941. But FDR had, for two years, been doing pretty much what we're doing with Ukraine today.

Putin is a bully. He is dangerous, not only to Europe, but the whole world. He has been dangerous all along and showed his ass by invading his neighbor. Putin needs to go. And right now, he needs to be ejected from Ukraine. Some of you are on the wrong side of history.

Russia does not have a military or economy capable of fighting on multiple fronts in a quest for world domination.

We trained and funded some folks to antagonize Russia before, in Afghanistan. How did that all turn out? That's perhaps the history we should consider.

China's President Xi said in an address to his parliament that the China-Russian alliance is very strong and growing stronger. So, for those of you in the anti-Ukrainian/pro-Putin crowd y'all have a new buddy, Xi!

Meanwhile, those dastardly Ukran folks have shot down 58 of Putin's righteous cruise missiles in the past 48 hours. The Ukrans are using some of that "no accountability" US aid, in the form of Stinger Missiles, to shoot down Putin's missiles. Damn it! I know some of you are rooting for more Putin missiles to strike civilian targets and kill more Ukran women and children.

Very generous offer, but that is not necessary. Besides, we have another 4 million illegals to take care of too. No, we are providing aid at about the right rate. Yeah, I know, some people say it's too much, and maybe we can roll it back some, especially since Biden can send Kamala back to Europe and she'll get our NATO allies to pony up some more .

Norway is making good on their promise to provide aid in the form of military equipment as another shipment of 150mm mobile howitzers have been delivered to Ukraine. Most (all?) freedom-loving nations are doing what they can to help Ukraine, even as some here call for an end of the US's participation.

    Re: Russia

Breaking news...being reported that a civil war has begun in Russia. Unconfirmed report by independent sources. But...

According to a YouTube video put out by one of Putin's inner circle, who has been vocal in opposition of the Ukrainian invasion, his forces attacked a Russian base of units who have remained loyal to Putin. And there is another opposition leader who has his own loyal forces who is threatening attacks on both Putin's forces and this other opposition leader. If this proves to be true, then there will be three separate factions fighting for control of the Russian government. Again, this report comes from inside of Russia and there are no western sources confirming the report. Not yet, anyway.

Putin's inner circle is composed of 9 advisors. He has had a 5-4 vote in his favor on the Ukraine invasion and other controversial policies. Two of those four are now openly opposing Putin as mentioned in the report.

The published YouTube video shows Russian army units, loyal to one of those in opposition to Putin, attacking what appears to be a Russian army base, located between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Then the video has the opposition leader appearing making a statement he wants to take Russia in a new direction and establish peaceful relations with the rest of the world, starting with Ukraine.

If this is true, then Putin is finished.

    Re: Russia

One of Putin's staunchest supporters, in his inner circle, Medenev, is advocating for placing Russian naval assets close to the coasts of western countries supporting Ukraine, including the US, of course. A threat of a nuke missile attack on Washington and Philadelphia, as named by this lunatic, is supposed to instill fear in Americans? Hmmm...not sure we good Americans would miss DC or Philly, actually .

In other news, 450 specially trained, super-duper Afghan commandoes, have been sent to Ukraine as a message to Biden and the US to "back off" supporting the Ukrans. Wow! must be Ninjas or something. A whole 450 of 'em. With Putin losing 600 soldiers every day, these 450 won't plug the hole for more than about 18 hours! Just more cannon fodder for the Ukrans.

    Re: Russia

The US is sending 50 upgraded Bradley Fighting Vehicles to Ukraine as part of our arms supplying.

And word is Putin is calling up another 500,000 soldiers in a last-ditch desperate attempt to salvage his evil invasion and his political career (even as news of his health issues continue to leak out). Pundits say if this call-up fails then Putin is kaput. Of course, pundits are also predicting how many of the 500K will actually reach the front, how effective they will be, and how many will quickly just surrender to Ukran forces. Some experts say maybe 30,000 of the 500K will render some effective service for Putin.

    Putin is losing.

    Re: Russia

Met a very nice couple today from Moscow. Both had a delightful Russian accent, but both spoke very good English. Came out to Melrose and took a tour. They are on a 5-week vacation trip through Texas and Louisiana. I eased up to the subject, but hell, no way could I have let them leave without bringing it up. Well, it seems all they know, or think they know, is Russia is fighting to liberate part of Ukraine from the Nazis. Started to ask him how is it he wasn't drafted to fight in Ukraine, but I didn't. His wife, a pretty blonde, just said something like, "our military is liberating eastern Ukraine and we are winning." I said, "Enjoy your visit here." They were nice and absolutely fascinated by our history.

Obviously, they have been exposed to the Russian version of CNN, nothing but lying propaganda.
