The call on what should have been a routine out was very telling yesterday. Announcers expected a short to medium fly ball out, and the outfielder caught it on the run on the warning track.

And just now the Arizona outfielder goes back expecting to have a play on a ball, and it lands about 10 rows deep in the right field seats.

Moo State showed how NOT too worry about a juiced ball...don't let the batters hit the ball! Good pitching beats good hitting. It's the surest way to be a consistent winner in baseball.

There was nothing "sure" about that MSU win. Texas hit a HR in the bottom of the 9th to make it 2-1 MSU, and then the Horns loaded the bases before finally hitting a grounder for the last out. That game was very, VERY close.

And, I will add it was Moo State's pitching that beat Texas. The UT pitcher had a great game too, did a very good job of holding down MSU's potent offense, but the two MSU pitchers out-pitched him.

NC State beat Vandy at its own game...pitching. Beginning to think the 2021 baseball Pack is pulling off a 1983 basketball Pack deal!

That’s exactly right. In fact there’s something of a trend going on that pretty much all the umps have been taking the pitchers out of the last inning at bat equation. They are deciding to let the defensive team win the game in the field rather than calling edge strikes. If you watch closely you’ll see it in every game and I’m not talking only about Omaha, it’s taken place everywhere including in Ruston some weeks ago. That’s why every last a bat had either lead off walks or hits, the umps were forcing pitchers to throw more to the center of the plate which is of course going to lead to pitches being hit.

Vanderbilt's Jack Leiter pitched a 15-strikeout gem, but his lone run was a fifth inning home run by Terrell Tatum that gave NC State a 1-0 win, advancing the Wolfpack to 2-0 in the 2021 College World Series. Watch the full game highlights here. Good video is you've got 4 minutes to watch.
