Moo State's first ever national championship, in any sport, men's or women's. About 8 to10 years ago South Carolina won its first ever NC when their women's track team won a title. I was surprised by that and did a quick check and found that most schools, including most of the P5s, have never won a NC in anything.

Now, little ole CUSA has national championships in:

WBB - Tech and ODU
MBB - UTEP
Baseball - Rice
Soccer - Marshall

and maybe I've missed one or two.

NCs are not to be so readily dismissed. They are hard to come by.

After last night, just two P5 schools have never won a team national championship in anything--Kansas State and Virginia Tech.

Final HR count was 29 in 16 games, up 7 in just one more game played than in 2019. The only game without one was the shorthanded N.C. State-Vanderbilt matchup.

While Stanford leads the way in overall team titles, UTEP has the most team titles among current Group of 5 schools with 20. Interesting that only two power five schools have no team championships, particularly that Virginia Tech would be one of them.

UTEP was dominate in the 1970’s and early 1980’s in cross country and track and field on the men’s side, winning 20 team national titles.

North Texas won four team golf national championships.

Old Dominion won 9 national championships in field hockey between 1982 and 2000.

Add in the team championships D80 referenced and Conference USA has 41 team titles.

But the only one that was won while a CUSA member was Marshall’s soccer title.
